With a storied history, bustling sports culture, and more than 50 colleges in the city, Boston is one of the most exciting places in the country to be a student, and BU is right in the thick of it. "Often, friends and I would go around the city to eat in Boston's 'little Italy' the North End, or catch a Red Sox game, or go to a local bar and shoot pool. The benefit, for me, of going to college within a city was there never seemed to be a shortage of anything to do," says Rachel, a theatre major. Since BU does not have a traditional campus like nearby Northeastern or Harvard, Boston is a major part of every student's day-to-day life. For most, this is a highlight. Sarah, an international relations student, says, "Boston is one the best things about BU. It is such an amazing city to be a student in."

Go BU! What's fabulous about BU is that, in addition to its urban appeal, you get that traditional campus feeling along the Charles River side of campus (all of Bay State Road, BU Castle, Alpert Mall behind Marsh Chapel, down to the student union, and West Campus is completely enclosed). Yes, BU, even has a castle on campus. Also, no other university in the country has a street as beautiful as Bay State Road where students can live in 19th century brownstones that are BUtifully maintained.

Nice to see some UVM lovin'! Seriously though, Burlington is a great place to go to school- close skiing, fun bars, good music scene, lots of interesting festivals, etc. It's small compared to Boston or NYC, but it is saturated with college students and has lots of culture. It's also great for active, outdoor types. And if you're itching for the city, Montreal is only about 1.5 hours away. It really epitomizes a fun college town.

My daughter visited and was accepted to some of the schools on the list.
She chose a State school....she doesn't want to be an indentured servant to the gov't (well, more than she already will be) for the rest of her life.

You mean she chose an in-state school since six state schools (including my glorious Wisconsin) were on the list.

Having gone to Boston University I can say that it was a great experience. I still love the city. I just hope that the Red Sox don't blow it.

No conservative schools. How not-surprising.

What gives - They are all in the United States - the headline says "10 BEST COLLEGES...."" Nothing about being in the USA... Thought they meant 10 Best (in thte world - not limited to the the USA.. HP and more misleading headlines - this is a world wide site not a USA site..'.

Cal is actually an awesome place to go to college. I kind of hated my first two years, because i was getting bad grades and having problems with girls. But I eventually turned to like it and now I really enjoy going back. Most of all its really nice to say I'm a Cal alum, because people respect me for it.

I prefer Columbia to NYU. I just think Morningside/Riverside Dr/UWS/Harlem is more scenic and appealing than Greenwich Village. Plus, Columbia has the beautiful central Morningside campus. I feel like NYU's lack of a campus can make some students feel alienated.

Ohio University in Athens. It was a party school back in the early 70's, and is #1 again.

Go Bobcats!!!!
