Lou Ree And Metallica Release 'The View' Off 'Lulu'

Have a listen to the first full track off "Lulu," the Lou Reed/Metallica (Loutallica) collabo-album due out this Halloween. It's called "The View," but it sounds less like five roosting hens than it does the harder side of Jethro Tull. Check it out, and read along, if you'd like, over at Soundcloud.

All the album is nothing but Lou's unreleased material and Metallica's arrangement, so i'd rather listen to Metallica's old stuff

I just got a headache.

I'ts OK for 30 seconds then goes nowhere like most Metallica.

Lou sounds cool though.

I get better sounds out of my garbage disposal. Reed is the one of the most overated "legends" in rock history.

You must not know anything about music.

You must be joking. Ever hear "Velvet Underground"? Not overrated at all.
07:08 AM on 09/28/2011
The Underground was fine thanks to Cale and the enigmatic Nico with Reed contributing his share but when he went solo, a decent song or two, one ok album (New York) but his drone on style and pedestrian guitar playing made him a fair at best solo performer.

I'd go with the Ramones any day.

You realize that they just walked I to the studio... Took five minutes to make that up just after they pressed "record" and then laughed at all the people who'll buy it.

That said... Lou, congratulations.... "metal machine music" is no longer your worst recording ever.

Really? You hear one track from the album and feel comfortable calling it the worst thing he's ever done?
The Velvet Underground were panned..."Berlin" was panned..."The Raven" (which contained some of the finest songs Lou has ever written, like 'Vanishing Act' and 'Guardian Angel') was panned. For 45 years, Lou Reed has been shrugging off the too-easy dismissals of his work and continuing to make great albums. Thank god for that.

Really. I feel comfortable calling that one track a big steaming loaf, dropped from the hind quarters of a bunch of rockers from two separate generations who've both done some amaizing work... But should know when it's time to pack it in.

If you can listen to that pretentious splat of yesterday's dinner hitting the fan and say anything other than "wow, that stunk," you're probably one of the people who actually listened to Metal Machine Music from beginning to end... And pretended to like it.

Don't blame me, I voted Smitherman.

Zzzzzz. Oh, sorry about that. Ugh, why couldn't Metallica call it at day instead of R.E.M.. At least the later were still interesting musically. Lou, you're really doing yourself a disservice here.

Velvet Underground has nothing to worry about.
07:01 PM on 09/26/2011
This is terrible. This song is just terrible. Not because of Lou's singing. That's his thing, and he's good at it. The problem is Metallica. Not only does the song sound like it was recorded in a basement, it's boring as hell. It adds no melodic backing to give Lou's voice any support. It makes it sound like a high school battle of the bands.

What drugs did they take to convince themselves this was good? I'm still holding out that this is some kind of elaborate joke.

WOW. Wow. wow. This blows!
It's almost as if Lou went on his own, and recorded his lyrics. And they made a very predictable Metallica riff. they laid the tracks over each other. The end.
06:33 PM on 09/26/2011
It does, but you know what blows worse? The Grateful Dead.

There should be an unwritten rule in Rock that you don't name songs after talk shows that employ Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
