Crystal Renn Glitters In Gold At The Metropolitan Opera (PHOTOS)

For better or for worse, it was not her weight but a pair of suspiciously Asian-inspired stretched eyes that threw Crystal Renn back in the media limelight recently.

But the model, famous for her body image battles, stepped out last night at the Metropolitan Opera looking svelte, glittery and total normal in the eye area.

Renn showed up to the opera's opening night on the arm of Zac Posen, whose runways she's walked for quite often.

But unlike at some of those fashion show moments, however, last night Renn looked quite slender -- not dangerously so, but a far cry from the size 12 she used to boast.

But it should come as no surprise, as lately the model has hovered somewhere in between ultra-skinny and "plus-size," a title that itself has been the source of some headaches. Renn said earlier this year:

I think that by placing a title on my head, which is "plus-size," and then the picture that these people have created in their mind about what plus-size actually is, I've basically failed you just with that. Because I couldn't possibly live up to that, and at this point in my life I would have to actually have another eating disorder to live up to that expectation. I had anorexia ultimately because someone else set the standard for me and I wanted to follow it. And if I followed what the public wanted from me or what the media wants from me [to be plus-size], I'd be doing the same thing.

By today's standards Marilyn Monroe, who was a size 12, would be considered plus size. Some say that when you reach a double digit number you are considered plus size, a 10 is plus size, really! In some cultures that are economically depressed if the man's wife is plus size he is considered a good provider and someone to be admired.

We come in all shapes, sizes, heights, some with boobs, some flat like a pancake, some with great hips, some with no hips and the descriptions are endless. With the fashion industry it is "If you can't fit in a size two you are not accepted."

Lizzie Miller, the 20-year-old model in question, agrees that it's astonishing that, at 5ft 11in and 12.5 stone she's considered a "plus size" model. "It's sad," she says. "In the industry anything over size six is considered a plus-size." Miller, who is around a US size 12-14 (that is, either average or slightly below average) lost about 60lb when she was 13 but today she is considered too large to model for plus-size lines Marina Rinaldi (she says, "they like girls who are an 8-10") or Elena Miro. She says that the overwhelming reaction to the tiny photograph, buried on page 194 of Glamour magazine "shows that the world is hungry to see pictures of normal women."

As for her eyes being weird, maybe a bad eye job, or botox, since her brow looks arched but her forehead is smooth as can be.

You know, I can't say that I care much about these fashion events, as most designers clothes are butt-ugly. But, if all you're going to do is harp on this model's weight EVERY time you have a story on her, why even bother?

Yes, I know, some people are upset that she's not plus-size anymore. Nevertheless, it's her life, and if she feels better and healthier -- and if she's eating right and exercising -- can people just let her live her life as she sees fit?

I think I saw her face in one of Picasso’s paintings – where the eyes and noses are out of whack.

I just prefer her "plus-sized" or whatever you want to call it. I read her book and thought she was so gorgeous fuller-figured, and she stood out in a sea of skinny models. I hate to think of her savoring pieces of lettuce and working out for hours to look like this.

The "normal in the eye area" was a reference to her photo shot for Vogue Japan where they taped her eyes back. Poor choice of words - as she looks far from "normal"....

She lost weight by having her brain removed. The surgeon had to stretch her face back to make up for the brain loss. Hence the funky eyes.
