No Vogue Covers For Kate Middleton, Palace Says

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/27/2011 9:16 am Updated: 11/27/2011 4:12 am

We got all excited when we read rumors of a Kate Middleton Vogue cover (The Cut even went ahead and made a quite lovely mock-up).

Alas, today People reports that there will be no covers for Catherine.

A palace spokeswoman told the magazine, "There are no plans for the Duchess to do anything with U.S. Vogue," dashing our dreams of seeing the duchess and her bouncy brown locks, a solid knee-length dress and those L. K. Bennett heels shine on the glossy pages of Vogue.

Instead of posing for silly fashion magazines (the ones that have made her a star, mind you), the Duchess of Cambridge will focus on her charity work.

Presumably after completing her "How To Be A Royal" course, Kate will choose projects where she can "make a difference," the palace told People.

"She knows her role is to bring a spotlight onto causes and she will do that – and when she starts, she will do it with gusto," said another source.

Much as we'd love to see a royal Vogue cover, philanthropic work sounds fine to us... just as long as she keeps wearing those outfits and fascinators with gusto, as well.

I wasn't excited. Kate is not a celebrity, plus she's still green behind the ears in terms of the Royal scene. It will be a long while before her leash is clipped, or short I say shortened. She'll be tied to the protocol of the Royal family for the rest of her life.

Silly fashion mags made her a star? Hardly. Photo shoots and fashion covers are not on the agenda of royals. Philanthropic work is.

Over exposure can make a pretty face tiresome -- especially with the same expression all the time. Sorry, but that's my take!

True, always the same expression.

I doubt she has a wide choice of facial expressions that she's allowed to display in public. It's not as if she can be seen scowling, or pouting, or posing provocatively. Look at any royal, they pretty much have the same expression.

Diana always had a variety of expressions and it was as though "you" could almost read her thoughts -- one was the expression where she would have her head down but her eyes looking up. To me Kate has only one look (with the big smile) -- not her fault, but that's the way I see it!

I hope at least one of her charities will include a shelter for homeless dogs and cats, donkeys, horses, etc.
Animals in England need help as badly as the people there and her becoming a Patron could make a big difference.

ooh I can't wait until she decides what she cares about! So many choices.

Did you notice in the photo that she is wearing a pair of Diana's favorite earrings? I think it's nice that Catherine is so willing to pay "tribute" to William's mother and I know when I see her wearing something familiar, like these earrings, I remember Diana and I smile.

Kate is a classy lady.

So what. There are plenty of women that have style and poise. In fact, no one has really seen her do any thing yet. She's been posing for pictures and smiling. What's she really like as a public speaker and a doer? What's kind of personality does she have. No one really knows yet. Impressions of her are all based on her wedding, clothing and photos.

Kate and Pippa are really gorgeous!

She is going to be the Queen of England. There will be PLENTY of pictures Lest we forget she is a young newlywed with beaucoup to learn about the family business, a husband in the service, and a chorus of peerage clamoring for a royal pregnancy. I imagine her plate is full about now and she needs Vogue a lot less than Vogue needs her

Good for them. The magazine does not care for them or about their reputation as long as they can sell magazines. Good for Kate to keep her life in her own confines.

Ellie Krupnut - WHEN are you FINALLY going to stop calling her Kate Middleton??? She is NO longer Kate Middleton. This woman is NOW the Princess Catherine. This is what she has requested to be called and everytime you start an article by calling her Kate it is an insult. And really, after reading your articles about both the Princess and the First Lady, I wish they would send you to another department to write articles. It's been VERY obviously for a long time you don't have a CLUE as to fashion and what is good and what isn't. Please move on!!!!!

Duchess Catherine, she cannot be Princess. That title is reserved for Royal blood.
05:36 PM on 09/27/2011
Not a Royal Expert here but am just saying..Diana was not royal blood..As a Spencer, she was not a commoner but not royal either I guess. Her Majesty decides who will be given what title. That Catherine was to be Duchess of Cambridge (or William was to be The Duke) was announced the day of her wedding. I think up to about Diana's time, the princesses were given the same name as their husband, like Princess Michael. Catherine might have been styled Princess had HM chose. She could have been called Princess & that she wasnt, hasnt anything to do with Royal blood.
06:54 PM on 09/27/2011
No. She's not called "Princess", because that is reserved to the wife of the Prince. The current Prince is Charles and his wife, Diana, was the one called Princess. I believe that when Charles becomes King, William will become Prince and Catherine will then be called Princess.

she's not Princess Catherine either. She's the Duchess of Cambridge, it would be improper to call her princess until Charles takes the throne

Yes I am a witch. Deal with it.

Nope.
Marriage to William gave her the title Princess as a courtesy.
They were named as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to ennoble Catherine further as she is now a future queen.

They don't want to start a media trend and feed Kate to the media causing another frenzy reminiscent of Diana. I think it's a good thing myself and I don't think Kate and Wills want this either.

She appears to be a very kind genuine person - it can't be easy to live under the microscope even though yes she asked for it. She could have requested she be known as Princess Katherine, but opted for Duchess. She does not appear to stand on formalities and 'pulling rank'. She lives, and will for the rest of her life, a very charmed privileged life. Of course she *has* to do charity work - but she seems to actually enjoy what she does - and looks to be making sure that the ones she chooses are ones she can do with joy and true interest. She can be calm and patient -she knows one day she will be Queen Katherine of England.

She actually carries both titles.
The "Princess" will be ascendant when Charles is crowned and William becomes Prince of Wales as the Heir to the throne.
