Bill O'Reilly On 'The View': Spars With Joy Behar, Co-Hosts About Bush, Partisanship (VIDEO)

Bill Oreilly The View

Bill O'Reilly returned to "The View" Wednesday for the first time since his infamous comments about Muslims caused Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg to walk off the show nearly a year ago.

This time, everyone made sure to behave themselves. Goldberg even whipped out a seat belt and literally fastened herself into her chair to ensure that she wouldn't take flight.

However, things got rather testy in the second half of the chat. O'Reilly was on to promote his new book about President Lincoln, and he kept refusing to engage in any debate with the co-hosts about current politics.

O'Reilly said Lincoln was his "gold standard" because he put the country "over himself." Joy Behar quickly tried to connect that point to current politics. Referencing the crowds at GOP debates who have booed gay soldiers and dying patients, she asked, "is that the party of Lincoln?"

"I'm not going to get into the party politics because I don't care about that," O'Reilly said. "I'm telling you the country's in trouble." The co-hosts all seemed to be trying to pin him down on any particular person who he thought might get the country out of trouble, but he would not budge. "President Obama may be the guy, or the Republican party may be the guy," he said. "...I'm not going to talk about partisan politics."

When Behar started saying that President Bush had not asked Americans to sacrifice after 9/11 (as O'Reilly said the current or next president should), O'Reilly cut her off. "You're back to Bush-bashing and I think it's boring," he snapped.

"You're a historian, I'm giving you history!" Behar said to applause. "If you guys want to live your life as partisans, go ahead," O'Reilly said. "That doesn't interest me."

Joy and Whoopi are such losers and I have long since abandoned that show. Even Barbara has such a shallow point of "view." Sherry is an "up and coming Whoopi clone!"

I have a hard time believing he actually wrote this book himself.

Turned off The View during the presidential elections during 2008 particularly because of Beha's unprofessional and demeaning treatment of John McCain and have never regretted the decision. Thank goodness for the snippets on the internet that prove the decision was correct.

Lincoln put the country before himself. Hey Billy, did George W. ? The answer is a resounding NO, but yet you voted for him.

I like O'Reilly. Unlike like Sean Hanity, he will actually praise Obama from time to time. Very independent. Looking forward to his book.

It gets him a lot more viewers than Hannity.
03:01 PM on 09/30/2011
I with you, I like him because he doesn't tow the conservative-republican line like hannity.
I don't agree with everything Bill says but at least he doesn't call people "A good American" for agreeing with him...

Wow, that makes him right on issues what 0.01% of the time? It's like saying to the second to last finisher, "hey look, you beat that chump even though you lost to the other hundred players." Be proud!

Im surprised that Joy and Whoopi Goldberg didn't walk off the set again'' when Bill O 'Reilybegan promoting his book and stated that America should be in a Lincoln state of mind.Former president Lincoln, only fredd slves due to urging from his campaign party due to poor support from northern ,eastern and western states.Lincoln himself was a 'slave owner' ons on former slave and had slaves working in his home. The emancipation proclamation didn't place restrictions on former slave owners, bounty hunters and slave traders.'Freed Slaves' were continously hunted, murdered, and endentured for years to come. This act was for favoritism and opportunism not patriotism' or righteous reasons.during Lincoln's short presidency freed slaves still had the value of cattle and cotton',many of Lincoln decisons were influenced by his cabinent members who struck under the table, so called Gentleman's agreement with the opposition.Wev'e had better presidents to look up to and those of high political influence'.

What I think is hysterical is that its obvious that the view ladies dont like bill O and he doesnt like them but a bucks a buck so he will go on and sell his book. There is no "journalism" anymore, Bill O talks out his butt and thinks that screaming at his "guests" on his show means he is right. Just because you are LOUD does not mean you are RIGHT.

As irritating as I generally find Bill, I'm actually on his side in this context. He came to the show to discuss his book, not to talk politics, and the hosts should have stuck to that. And I say this as a major fan of both Whoopi and Joy.

I don't know, he's a known public figure for discussing politics so its only fair for them to ask him about it.

Not an O'Reilly fan, but I hate the ignorant yentas on The View!

Well , First of all I particularly don't like O'Reilly and what he represents - Nothing. He avoids questions and wants to voice his own opinion. If he would really opened his mouth-He would be opening a can of worms. I am a true believer that President Abraham was a great leader and that a leader like him would be great in our time. With that said , I would like to touch on a topic that has been controvercail for years. It has been written about it even by Phycologists. Mr. Abraham carried alot on his back. His wife kept him going and was political in her own way. Today, we have the "don't ask - don't tell" issue. Which is an issue that has been going back and forth and in the long run the Gay military will win. Let us remember that President Lincoln was a very depressed man because of the same issue. He was a GAY president. I know I am going to get alot of hate mail but before you send me your hate messages- do your homework and let it all in. And just breath in.

Bill FDR was the best President EVER.
04:58 PM on 09/29/2011
FDR was a great president but I don't think consensus among knowledgeable sources would place FDR above Lincoln.

In the aggregate ranking from many different sources, Lincoln get 1, and FDR gets 2. Check it out.

FDR would have bankrupted this country if it weren't for the war. Nice try though.

You're completely wrong.

How do you know that? And, did you forget that FDR's predecessor, the great Republican Hoover, DID bankrupt millions of citizens.

O'Reilly writing a book on Lincoln is like Noam Chomsky writing a book on O'Reilly.

I stopped watching The View a long time ago. I find it amusing that they think they're tackling the issues - which anyone who actually watches hard news will quickly realize is a joke. The other day I caught it for a moment and heard Joy Behar say, verbatim, "Herbert Cain won the Iowa straw poll." Nope. She has her own show?
