Bill O'Reilly, Jon Stewart Have Feisty Clash About Taxes On 'Daily Show' (VIDEO)

Bill O'Reilly made his eighth appearance on "The Daily Show" Wednesday, and had a feisty, funny chat with Jon Stewart during the segment that actually aired on television. It was in an extended Web segment, though, that things got very heated, as the two hosts clashed intensely over taxation in one of the sparkiest arguments in their long history together.

Stewart came right out and told O'Reilly that he wasn't going talk about the book the Fox News host had come on to promote. Instead, he launched into O'Reilly's much-vaunted threat to leave his show if his taxes rose above 50 percent (something Stewart already lampooned him for).

"What threat of that is empty?" he asked. "All of it," O'Reilly joked, before adding that the tax burden could become too "onerous" on him. Stewart said that the idea that O'Reilly and he would walk away if they took home $3 million instead of $3.5 million was "crazy talk." O'Reilly was ready with a quip. "You're not making that much money," he said.

"What is this whole business with the poor, poor rich in this country?" Stewart asked. "Are you ever going to wise up, ever?" O'Reilly responded. His basic point was that he would be fine with higher taxes if the government cut spending and spent the rest of its money more wisely. He brought up the infamous $16 muffins at the Justice Department, a story he was delightfully surprised Stewart hadn't heard about.

The two sparred for some minutes until taking their conversation to the Web, and it was here that things really got interesting. O'Reilly admitted that he was a "Democrat" on the issue of financial regulation, and said he wanted cocaine dealers to pay their fair share in taxes. ("So in your mind the debt crisis is caused by renegade cocaine dealers who are avoiding their social responsibilities?!" Stewart said.)

As O'Reilly started saying again how oppressive taxes have become, Stewart grew increasingly peeved. "Stop it, stop it," he kept saying. He pointed out that income tax has gone down. "Every other tax has gone up!" O'Reilly said. "Stop it!" Stewart responded. "You're not living in reality!"

He read a long list of statistics about the rising inequality in America. O'Reilly said this meant he wanted to "shoot" the rich. "I'm not saying we should shoot them!" Stewart said. "But we shouldn't act like returning to the tax rate of the 90s is class warfare on par with Lenin and Marx!"

O'Reilly then said he wanted a ten percent spending cut "across the board," which made Stewart practically do a spit take. "What kind of idiot-- across the board?!" he said. "You're not even going to look?"

Straight from the DOJ re: $16 muffin...

"The EOIR spent $4,200 on 250 muffins and $2,880 on 300 cookies and brownies. By itemizing these costs, we determined that, with service and gratuity, muffins cost over $16 each and cookies and brownies cost almost $10 each."

Note: "with service and gratuity"

In other words, Bill O'Reilly is full of hot air on this one.

How much was that tip then? 400%, 500%? What came with that muffin? A free tattoo and shoe shine?
I go to Starbucks and get really expensive cookies and muffins for $2 - $500 total add in sales tax, $550, tip of 25% $687. Oh yes and the hidden "Delivered by Escort Service Ladies" charge of $3500.
You're right he's full of it.

Perhaps you missed what Hilton came out and said: the "muffin" listing didn't just include service and gratuity, but an entire continental breakfast. Liberal or conservative, don't let the media spoon feed you information. Do the background research.

I almost always disagree with Bill O'Reilly, but I have to say - I love his banter with Jon. He's hilarious sometimes. Ignorant and frequently out in left field, but still hilarious.

Bill is either clueless to the plight of the unemployed and newly poor, or maybe he just doesn't care. I hope he follows through though.

If he had quit Flock's News a few years ago, Dr. George Tiller would probably be still alive today.

It's remarkable how much O'Reilly was agreeing with Stewart. Either O'Reilly is really a closet democrat who spouts nonsense on Fox for a paycheck, or he is planning on running for office someday.

I think O'Reilly is secretly more of a centrist than he'd like us to believe, but if he ever came out as such his paycheck might take a hit.

Battle of the ages. The uneducated Tbagger right battles the educated liberal left. And the left wins again.

Bill O is no Tea Partier. I wouldn't call him uneducated either. He has a BA in history and a Masters in Journalism.

Blinded by partisanship is no way to go thru life B.B.

I guess you don't listen to his comments. The only degree one can count on from him is the one he uses most the time the Masters in B.S. one. The only people around here who are blinded are the ones who follow tis derk.

O'reilly wants everyone to "wise up", like he did.

Life is so much more pleasant, and so much simpler, if all you care about...... is yourself.

O'Reilly was on the Today Show this past week, if I recall, and Matt was doing the intro of Bill before his segment was to start in which the guest's mike is not live yet but just him sitting there smiling and waiting. Well, the control booth DID have their mikes on and they said: "Just look at him, he can't wait to get his mug on camera" then one could hear them laughing too. Well, the look on Bill's face because he could hear them in his ear piece was priceless. Little did he know that the tv audience heard it too. Heh

Simply the best....joke I've heard in a long time! Bill O'Reilly is a democrat? We can thank the GOP clown car that is bursting at the seams with an egomaniacal gang of candidates sure to lose! The "intellectual" O'Reilly is busy these days shilling his book about Abraham Lincoln. Odd that his co-author (read ghostwriter) isn't seen cruising the couches of talk TV with wild Bill? Real democrats share the wealth Bill.
