Kate Middleton Makes Appearance In Off-White Amanda Wakeley Number (PHOTO)

Earlier this month, the New York Times observed that Kate Middleton's ladylike style would influence New York Fashion Week because of her ability to resonate with young women who "aspire to a classically patrician look but who have, until recently, had few credible role models."

And despite criticism that Kate is not a trendsetter, but a follower, she ranked at No. 7 on People's annual "10 Best Dressed" list two weeks ago.

So, naturally all eyes were on Duchess Catherine when she stepped out for a royal engagement today in a cream-colored Amanda Wakeley dress and L.K. Bennett pumps. (She did not wear anything from her recent Topshop visit.)

Wakeley is a favorite of Kate's. The Duchess even pulled a wardrobe repeat with a navy suit by the designer a few months back.

The knee-grazing sheath was a tasteful choice for the event: Kate and hubby William were opening a children's cancer unit at South London's Royal Marsden hospital.

And if Kate's been appearing a little more regal lately, it might be because she's had lessons.
