Kate Winslet's 'Miracle Dress' On 'Good Morning America' (VIDEO)

When Kate Winslet wore a curve-hugging black-and-white Stella McCartney number to the Venice Film Festival earlier this month, we couldn't help but admire her svelte figure.

Turns out we weren't alone. This morning, "Good Morning America" pronounced the formfitting sheath a "fashion miracle," touting the dress's virtues -- namely, creating the illusion of a narrow waist, elongating the torso and making the wearer appear roughly two sizes smaller.

While it's been seen before, on Penelope Cruz, Liv Tyler and others, People's Kate Dimmock notes, "Usually when someone wears a dress no one else wants to wear it. This time around, people are willing to go there, because it's that irresistible."

While the frock's $1,600 price tag is a tad beyond our budget, 'GMA' suggests wallet-friendly alternatives found at Topshop, Forever 21 and Bebe.

The nasty comments by some of the people on this post is unnecessary. The dress looks wonderful on her and color blocking has been around for decades. If you're overweight, the color blocking will give the illusion that you're smaller than you actually are. What I would like to know is how some of the people look who are always criticizing others. None of us is perfect and that includes celebrities and we can use all of the help we can get...what's wrong with that? I'm truly glad that there are so many perfect people out there (at least perfect in their own minds).

Kate Winslet isn't overweight by any means. She's a very beautiful woman and I think the dress looks amazing on her!

right on! she's just about my favorite young(ish) actress out there today. i am also a big fan of charlize theron and the not so young meryl streep. i might be aging myself, but the hollywood kids out there are so bad ... i don't care for drew barrymore, reese witherspoon, halle berry and angela jloie isn't the greatest (sometimes she's got a home run) but for the most part, she makes bad movie choices. i certainly hope you were able to catch kate in "midlred pierce" on hbo. (if not, worth buying dvd ) .

More than 20 yrs ago, I had a one-piece swimsuit designed like that ... a curved inset in the front, with rushing along the panels. The front panel was all one piece though, no 'blocking' in the bodice...

I looked awesome in that thing .... wore it right out too! I have often wished I had saved it to use as a 'pattern' for a dress especially with all the great new fabrics available now.
