The World's 10 Most Attractive Employers: Universum

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/29/11 04:01 PM ET   Updated: 11/29/11 05:12 AM ET

Of all companies in the world, it's Google that most often holds the enviable title of dream employer.

Based on the opinions of 160,000 job seekers, employer branding company Universum has found exactly which companies are perceived as the most attractive employers around the globe. Divided along both the engineering and business fields, it turns out American multinational companies are the best represented on both lists, with Germany a somewhat distant second.

Unsurprisingly, it's Google that comes out on top, besting both the business and engineering categories for the third consecutive year. Indeed, for those seeking jobs in business, IT companies have become more popular over the last year, according to Universum.

But this is only the latest notch on Google's survey-victory belt. In March, Universum reported Google was the most favored employer among young job seekers. The company was also recently named the brand with the highest value, as well as the best reputation.

Generation Y, opposed to baby boomers and Gen X, is more focused on a good work-life balance, Universum reports. That may help explain why financial companies that typically require long hours have lost ground in recent years.

As for actually landing a job at one of these esteemed organization? Easier said than done. A recent survey found that only a third of CEOs at America's largest companies are planning on hiring in the next six months.

Which companies are on the list besides Google? Here are the top 10 most attractive employers to job seekers in the field of business, according to Universum:

Contrary to all the hype about Steve Jobs and Apple. Here's the truth. Steve Jobs stole the iphone
LITERALLY from another company by lying to them. The employees in the Apple stores work under fear for the most part and they were screwed over big time in stock options and no bonuses.

I did not see Bank of America on the list-must have been an omission.
I know someone who has their retirement with Bank of America stocks. Big mistake-it should be in the government sponsored-crocks and cronies worked at or work for Goldman Sachs. You can bet your bottom bippy-they will never go under.

That's what I was thinking. My husband worked for KPMG for years and was very unhappy there. Our lives took a huge turn for the better once he left.

Google discriminates against job applicants who are over 40 years old, which is a violation of US law. Half of Apple's work force is in China and Korea.

Goldman Sachs --- really guys? Well yeah --- when you plunder the middle class to make a trillion dollars and then get tax payer bail out money -- I guess the few workers you hire would get good salaries. The fact is most Wall St institutions are run like slave camps and violate every employment law on the books. WHO writes this crap!?

Apple does have many benefits, yet it's not perfect. At the retail stores, rather than converting part-time employees to full-time, they just hire more part-time workers.

Apple's run like a slave labor camp. Only Young people are welcome and most of the work force is overseas.

Yes - it's the image. It's like Hollywood. Studios bleed their employees dry (not the management of course) and provide almost no benefits as many of the workers are freelance. People are attracted to it because it seems glamorous but nothing could be further from the truth. Media also practices religious discrimination which is illegal but occurs every day.
