WASHINGTON -- After last weekend's Red Line single-tracking mess downtown, Metrorail track work will impact four lines and necessitate shuttle train service to and from the Blue Line's busy suburban Franconia-Springfield terminal.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Blue and Orange line trains will share the same track between the Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory stations; Orange Line trains will operate every 20 minutes along the line and also share the same track between the West Falls Church and Vienna stations; Blue Line trains will share the same track between the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations. Blue Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between the Largo Town Center terminal and the Van Dorn Street station with a special shuttle train running between Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield every 20 minutes.
Green Line trains will share the same track between the Naylor Road and Southern Avenue stations.
Red Line trains will share the same track between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Twinbrook stations; trains will also share the same track between the Takoma and Forest Glen stations. Red Line trains will depart the Shady Grove and Glenmont terminals every 24 minutes. Metro will add more trains between the Grosvenor and Fort Totten stations between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. which will allow train service every 12 minutes between those stations and through downtown.
All track work is scheduled to wrap up before the system opens on Monday.
