Obama Speaks At Mike Mullen Retirement Ceremony

WASHINGTON (AP/The Huffington Post) — President Barack Obama is speaking Friday morning at the swearing-in of the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Adm. Mike Mullen is retiring after serving four years as chairman and more than 40 years in uniform. He will be handing the reins to Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, who will become the 18th chairman.

Vice President Joe Biden will also attend the ceremony at Fort Myer in suburban Washington.

In the afternoon, the president will be interviewed live by talk-show host Michael Smerconish (smur-KAHN'-ihsh). It's Obama's third interview with Smerconish since taking office.

In the evening, the president will deliver remarks at a campaign event at a private residence in Washington.
