In Hollywood strange friendships often develop, like the one between 19-year-old singer Demi Lovato and 30-year-old reality star Kim Kardashian.

If you were surprised to see Demi among the guests at Kim's wedding this past summer, you should know the two are close friends.

The former Disney star told Billboard.com that when she entered treatment last fall for an eating disorder and other emotional issues, she found out who her real friends were.

"I feel like there are some people that you're friends with that talk to you on Twitter or you text," she told the website, "But the people that are really there for me, are the people that were there for me when I went into treatment. The people that were still calling me while I was in [treatment] was Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez. Those two girls, they meant the world to me. They still do."

Kim and Demi's friendship seems to have blossomed in 2010 after Demi named Kim as her "style icon."

Kim wrote on her blog, "I love that Demi is embracing her curves and I'm so flattered that she is looking to me for style inspiration."

Perhaps Demi felt that Kim truly understood her own struggles with her body image. Kim also wrote:

"It makes me feel so happy to know that young girls are proud of their shapely bodies...I know for me it was a long journey to get to where I am today, and if I can help just one girl feel happy and confident in her own skin by showing that girls should not aspire to be, nor should they feel pressured to be skinny, then I've made a little bit of a difference."

Meanwhile, Demi and Selena Gomez have been close friends since childhood, when both girls appeared on "Barney & Friends." While their friendship hit a bump back in 2010 -- before Demi headed to treatment -- the girls seemed to know their friendship would last.

Demi admitted to the press, "There are times when even if you've known someone for a long time, you change. Just because we were best friends doesn't mean we're always going to stay best friends."

And Selena also admitted, "I think [ending friendships] is natural and people have to go through it. They may have hit a rough patch, but the girls know regardless, they'll always have each other's backs."
