After Rick Perry's "Niggerhead" Controversy, Conservatives Slam...Herman Cain!

Rick Perry

Mother Jones:

As Texas Gov. Rick Perry deals with the fallout from the revelation that his family leases a hunting camp called "Niggerhead," Herman Cain is facing his own backlash—for suggesting that the Perrys' conduct was "insensitive."

According to the Washington Post, Perry's family leases a piece of land referred to by local residents as "Niggerhead"; the word is carved into a rock at the entrance of the property. The rock was painted over sometime after the Perry family began renting the property in the 1980s, although the offending word is still "faintly visible." Locals interviewed by the Post provided comic rationalizations for why the name isn't offensive. Haskell County Judge David Davis told the paper, "It's just a name…Like those are vertical blinds. It's just what it was called." Perry, for his part, told the Post that the term was an "offensive name that has no place in the modern world."

For those of you he ll bent on insisting on the "innocence" of the word n--g-rhead, here are some visuals of how it used to be represented back in the day.

If you don't see the racism in them, it's because you don't want to. It's undeniable:

You must copy/paste the links into your web browser if you are unable to click them:

(notice the BLACK man on the label?)

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSHw09BZ_eN21gAKuTOWsWMnD8nlnwTlmApSCnI9KlF1BX4Q6SMaA

(Notice the BLACK caricature? Do you see the racism yet?)

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRQCLF5pd8HqEHdL44kUQjcdvtdsogZBO4_XeNNpmfcVvRXjlqE

(See the golf ball sitting on the BLACK character's head...being represented as a tee?)

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQAz3FFrOAvk8dJXV5db5yewu778dQR81j9fmU4e8n76MECVQZKuQ

(Do I REALLY have to say anything about that one?)

(Notice the label?)

If you don't see the racism in it, regardless of what WRITTEN definitions say, it's because you'd rather continue to deny the longstanding effects of racism in this country.

So many people trying to make it seem pretty and innocent...when all you see is a word definition, maybe. But with an accompanying VISUAL, there's no denying they are ROOTED in racism.

...still wonder why a black constituency (or black folk period) would have a problem with a presidential candidate not taking such an issue with it as to REMOVE the rock from the property altogether.

Quite possibly he did. The GOP is very unhappy with Cain's rather gentle rebuke of Perry's "insensitivity."

I have no love for Herman Cain but I knew that one was coming.

{Haskell County Judge David Davis told the paper, "It's just a name…Like those are vertical blinds. It's just what it was called."}
Note to self, stay the hell away from Haskell County and Texas as a whole

Ha! If you are "darker than a tan" you could have seen this one coming. Mr. Cain got off the "plantation" for a moment and spoiled the GOP/tea party narrative that they are not racists, he was not supposed to be BLACK, even in the face of "good ol fashioned word fun". Shoot, there were "N " lakes, mountains and hills in this country until very recently, right there on the map. But "Herman" forgot his job and went "rogue Black" on them for a minute and you KNOW how dangerous that is.

The scary thing is that this man is running for President. The name of this hunting camp is offensive for various reasons. What exactly are they hunting or pretending to hunt? The negative connotation associated with the camp would be reason enough for a person of moral fiber to refuse to inhabit the place. In my opinion it says alot about his character.

LOL...Herman Cain's about to get a very vital lesson from the party and people he embraces so dearly and he's too old for that "Deer Caught In the Headlights" look/attitude so it should make for some very interesting "I've been in Denial" type entertainment.

Y'all do know Perry was a Democrat when his family rented that place 20 years ago, don't you?

Of course it's Herman Cain's fault. You don't question the governor of Texas. It was fine when he attacked Obama racially, and insulted Black voters, because it's Black on Black violence. But attack a fellow GOPer? No way. And you're running for president as a republican? How dare you? Know your place, Herman. And way to backtrack later, don't let it happen again.

I think the news is reporting that Perry's grandfather used the name Niggerhead. But Perry has removed it. We have to understand that a number of people do not want this man in the White House, bleeding liberals and Christian haters.

What's a bleeding liberal? A female liberal who is menstruating? A liberal who has been stabbed by a conservative? And you do know that there are liberal Christians, right?

There is evidence enough that Mr. Perry used the hunting camp while it held that name. And you're absolutely correct - many of us certainly don't want that man in office. For myself, I am no longer a "bleeding" liberal as I am now menopausal; however, I'm a Christian who happens to find racism of any kind appalling and completely unbiblical, which is largely why I can no longer stomach this current breed of conservative Republican.
