For the celebrity who beats breast cancer, playing the role of activist is one that hardly gets old. As Breast Cancer Awareness Month gets under way, stars who have struggled with, and bravely fought the disease, continue to fiercely advocate for those confronting the very same battle. Whether they're establishing nonprofits that offer screenings for the uninsured, or raising funds for research, these famous activists continue to throw their names--and their time--behind the cause, to help find a cure.

I am glad Christina Applegate survived this horrible illness. Maybe I might get to know her or even date her. I glad she will be with us.

im very glad these women were able to beat breast cancer . but let us be realistic . stars ,with their money and fame have access to treatments that ordinary people dont get . trust me there is no equality in medical treatment the rich and famous have every advantage . ordinary people have to be content with the crumbs .

I agree, money does wonders. But, I am glad they are there to help the women who are not as fortunate....

It's amazing how much Christina Applegate looks like her mother, Nancy Lee Priddy, (singer, actress,) and also a breast cancer survivor.

Celebs would have us believe only they get it. Unfortunately ordinary people get it every minute of every day of the yr.

Today, tens of thousands of women have breast cancer and no insurance, they are being treated by a wing and prayer. This is unacceptable in America today; these are daughters, mothers, wives, grantmothers, sisters, aunts, who deserve better. They are Americans, this is 2011.

Yes, and then we listen to Republicans cheer about people dying without insurance and treatment.

For the majority of people it's a choice of pay the rent and food, or pay for health insurance. Women have few dollars with which to shell out for any type of insurance these days.

Richard Rountree of "Shaft" fame also had breast cancer. Even though he is a man, he should be included with these courageous ladies.

No one can ever surely say that they have beaten cancer. That applies to all types of cancer. On the last day of your life if you leave this world for some other illness or condition, then you can say that you have beaten this disease.

I hope and pray that all of these ladies stay cancer free and pray for all undergoing treatment for this horrid cancer.

you're praying to the same imaginary sky daddy that created cancer in the first place?

I don't understand this either, My sister got this, and we were all told it was caught early. She died in May 2006. I can't help but think the cure goes to the ones with a lot more money or celeberities ?

I lost my wife of 20 years to breast cancer. She was diagnosed when she was 38. She had went to the doctor a year before being diagnosed and said she felt something different in her breast but we were dismissed, we even went to a 2nd dr. and was dismissed. Well a year later they removed both breasts, but it spread to her spine, overies, brain and liver. She fought harder than anyone I have ever seen but lost the battle in my arms in Jan. of 2009. I am now left with twin 14 year old daughters and cant find a job after being laid off from a company I had worked for for 15 years. Life sucks.

Steve... I wish I could say something like.."I know what you're going through" but the truth is I have no idea of what you are going through. There is a very bright side though and that is your twin daughters. Steve if you want to converse you will see my e-mail address and I would be glad to talk things over with you. I may have no answers but I do have ears and sometimes that works. I am totally serious about my offer.

Imagine how many people could live if the Medical Industry came up with an economical (and safe)body scan that could detect early stages of certain forms of cancer that usually do not surface with symptoms until it is too late (e.g. Lung, Liver, Pancreas, etc.). Unfortunately, right now such scans would be too dangerous to keep repeating (annually) without cause...and Insurance Companies would NEVER cover the enormous costs.
