New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) is holding a press conference in his home state on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. ET. It is widely expected that Christie will announce he will not seek his party's presidential nomination in 2012.

The Star Ledger reports:

Today's press conference was called through the governor's office, setting off speculation by some that he will not announce a run for president today, and does not list a specific topic. It is not unusual for Christie to announce press conferences without including the subject matter.

National Review Online reported on Tuesday morning that according to New Jersey Republicans, Christie will not jump into the race for the White House.

Amid speculation that he could run for president last year, the Republican governor attempted to combat the buzz by saying, "Short of suicide, I don't really know what I'd have to do to convince you people that I'm not running." Nevertheless, as the race for the Republican presidential nomination heats up, talk about Christie's political ambitions continues to make headlines.

UPDATE: Jonathan Karl at ABC News reports that a source says Christie will not vie for the White House in 2012, though the New Jersey governor has reconsidered his plans for the next election cycle in recent weeks.

A Republican source tells Reuters that Christie will not run and sources tell Politico Christie does not plan to launch a campaign for president.

Below, a video mash-up capturing the build-up of speculation on any plans Christie may or may not have for 2012.

I hope that Christie will mature in his position, and be ready to give the Dems a run for it in 2016. This is a talented man. He will only get better.

I love the jokes for one reason. You liberals have shown yourselves for what you are! The first to complain when someone makes fun of a person but attcaking a man for his weight? Yet when someone mentioned the black Q-tip in the white house you all had so much to say! Keep going. You won't be laughing soon enough!

I wonder when Christie leaves New Jersey if they think the sea level is dropping.

I wonder how many times Christie flipped that coin, before He got the the side He wanted. You know that's the Republican standard way of making a decision is to flip a coin.

The only thing dumber than a Republican is a dumber Republican.

Hey it was the Republicans that don't understand English enough to know that NO, means NO. They want English as the primary language, but can't understand it themselves. That's why they don't believe the polls, because they can't understand the little numbers, or what they mean.

So now MSNBC and other networks are surprised? Shocked? What part of "I'm not running" which Christie has said over and over and over, do they not understand?
