Halloween In Arizona: A MapQuest Guide

From zombie parades and costume contests to haunted houses and hayrides (to haunted anything!), the Halloween season casts its spell and awakens our inner ghouls and goblins. As part of FrightQuest -- a MapQuest series on spooky destinations and activities -- here are three options to celebrate Halloween in Arizona that are sure to be a scream.

Freeman Farms Boutique Pumpkin Patch

Those on the lookout for pumpkins and family fun this Halloween should head over to Freeman Farms Boutique Pumpkin Patch in Arizona's Chino Valley. Guests are invited to wear costumes, take a hayride and pick a pumpkin worthy of carving into a jack-o'-lantern. Freeman Farms stays open to visitors every weekend in October. Noteworthy attractions include Freeman Farms' merry-go-round, petting zoo, maze and train rides.

Haunted Hotel Ball

Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. Every Halloween, the hip, historic Hotel Valley Ho plays host to The Haunted Hotel Ball -- which originated in Chicago and was brought to Scottsdale in 2004. The costume party, complete with disc jockeys and a costume contest offering $1,000 in prizes, takes place in the hotel's 8,000-square-foot spooky outdoor courtyard. Participants must be 21 or older.

Fall Music And Halloween Festival

Every year, Gilbert, Arizona, hosts its Fall Music and Halloween Festival at Freestone Park Ballfield Complex. In addition to live music and entertainment, the annual Halloween festival lures in guests with a variety of games, inflatable bounce houses and slides, tasty food and a host of free activities appropriate for the entire family. Vendors from Gilbert and across the state also set up booths for guests to peruse.
