Halloween In Delaware: A MapQuest Guide

From zombie parades and costume contests to haunted houses and hayrides (to haunted anything!), the Halloween season casts its spell and awakens our inner ghouls and goblins. As part of FrightQuest -- a MapQuest series on spooky destinations and activities -- here are three options to celebrate Halloween in Delaware that are sure to be a scream.

Sea Witch Halloween And Fiddler's Fest

Delaware goes back to the beach every October when the annual Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddler's Fest takes over Rehoboth Beach for three fun and fright-filled days. Draws include the costume parade down Rehoboth Avenue, haunted attractions such as All Hallow's Revenge and The Pirate Coast Haunted House Adventure, the annual Sea Witch Fall 5K Classic, Skim Fest and old-fashioned family games and activities. There's plenty of live-music entertainment throughout the weekend, including the Fiddler's Fest competition. The festival is free, though some events have admission fees.

Frightland

Frightland is Delaware's largest haunted attraction, with eight horror attractions geared toward adults and teens. Located just south of the C&D Canal in Middletown, Frightland offers a Horror Hayride, Haunted Woods, Ghost Town, and a full midway of carnival rides, games and amusements from late October to early November. All attractions are recommended for ages 12 and over, except during the family-oriented Fall Fest. Prices range from $20 for the carnival area only to $50 for an all-access "RIP" pass, plus $5 for parking. Proceeds benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware.

Ghost Tour Of Rockwood Mansion

Historic Rockwood Museum in Wilmington takes visitors back in time to Victorian-era Delaware. The museum is housed in an old mansion that has been restored to its 1895 state. That's when its original owners, the Bringhurst family, dwelled there. During the Halloween season, guests aged 12 and up can experience the ghostly side of Rockwood Mansion -- considered one of the most haunted places in Delaware -- with Ghost Tour in the Mansion. Take the basic 90-minute walk-through tour for $20, or help conduct a real paranormal investigation in the mansion as part of a three-hour program for $40 (ages 16 and up). All Ghost Tours require advance reservations.
