Depending on a team's style of play, defenders may not get many goal scoring opportunities, especially from close range. Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez seems to understand that fact. Early in the second half of Sunday's match against Athletic Bilbao, Martinez saw opposing goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz off his line and blasted a shot from his own half. The ball sailed just over Iraizoz's head and into the net. A perfect shot.
Martinez's golazo leveled the match at 1-1, but Athletic Bilbao would eventually win the match 2-1 thanks to a second goal from Fernando Llorente.
Just last week, Grenland's (Norwegian League) Jone Samuelsen netted a goal from his own half as well, but with his head. It was said to be the the longest-range headed goal ever... so in comparing the two, we have to give the edge to Samuelsen. What do you think?
