New iPhone On Its Way? Apple Store Goes Down Moments Before Apple Announcement

Apple Store Goes Down Moments Before Rumored iPhone Announcement

The Apple store website went down early Tuesday afternoon, just minutes before Apple CEO Tim Cook was slated to make some big announcements about new Apple products at Apple's "Let's Talk iPhone" event.

Is there a new iPhone (or two?) on the way? Apple's online store is known to be inaccessible just ahead of product refreshes and the downtime may signal that the rumors are true and a new version of the iPhone is poised for launch.

There's been some unusual activity on Apple's website in other areas of the world as well.

Two new iPhones are expected to be announced, and one of them, the low-cost iPhone 4S is reportedly already showing up on the Japanese Apple store site, as Business Insider and 9 to 5 Mac reported. 9 to 5 Mac has posted images of the alleged iPhone 4S that surfaced on the Japanese site, while Business Insider notes that the page indicates the new version of the iPhone would go on sale October 14.
