Newt Gingrich: 'The Hangover' Is 'Totally Stupid,' But I've Watched It 7 Times

Struggling GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich still has his sense of humor.

Despite reports of his campaign's cash-flow issues, the former House Speaker and his wife, Callista, still find time to watch their Hollywood favorites.

Topping the list is "The Hangover," the rowdy Las Vegas comedy that follows a trio of groomsmen looking for their lost, soon-to-be married friend. He's seen it seven times.

"It's totally stupid, but we can't help ourselves," Gingrich told the Concord Monitor on Sunday.

"I'll get home, and I'll just collapse on the couch," he told the paper. "I'll turn on the TV and flip channels, and I watch almost anything that moves." There's a lot for him to choose from. Gingrich apparently has 25 movie channels, TiVo and Netflix.

Gingrich's affinity for films might stem from his own work. The Hill adds that he and Callista have produced and appeared in several documentaries of their own.

"There's an entire article to be written someday about movies that have shaped my life," he told the Monitor, "because I'm a very movie-centric person."

Word of the family's love for "The Hangover" came hours after star actor Zach Galifianakis celebrated his 42nd birthday.

At this rate, Newt could be a prime candidate to join Alan's wolf pack.

There's a lot to be said for watching silly movies. But I watch the movies that aren't intentionally bad. They just are. The worse the "B" movie 'fail', the more I like it.

This must come from my days of watching MST3K, which by the way, I just found is on NetFlix streaming.

Newt Gingrich was asked about his penchant for marrying - a lot. He said "It's totally stupid, but we can't help ourselves," Gingrich told the Concord Monitor on Sunday.

Sorry, Newt was asked about a movie, not his multiple weddings.

Newt is dangerous and deranged! Even the Republican 'base' doesn't much approve and a good thing too, because if Newt became POTUS there would be no predicting upon which rockpile the ship of state would founder. But for sure he'd get us into something from which recovery would be unlikely.

Like the character in The Hangover, Newt needs to wake up and wonder why the h*ll he's doing. Running for POTUS? Who thought THAT was a good idea?

I'm no Newt fan but I am a movie buff so was curious...
yes, The Hangover was stupid, so stupid I don't think I laughed even once. It's in the same category as "Porky's"....and the only thing worse than watching a bunch of men and bathroom humor is watching a bunch of women and bathroom humor, so "Bridesmaids" must be included here as well....just awful. To each his own, but I wanted a refund.

Its good to have at least one stupid movie or book to just let your brain take a break. Laughter is a good thing. No crime here, folks. There are plenty of other reasons to come down on this guy. Enjoying a good laugh just doesn't seem like a good enough reason.

Well, IMO, it gives us a good idea of his pesonality and character. Yes, brain breaks are a darned good idea, but watching this 7 times? He must really feel the need to get away from his "campaign", I guess.

Wouldn't you? I'm no Newt fan by any means...and couldn't bring myself to be bothered with the Hangover, but its just a movie. No need to judge too harshly. Everything can't be A Raisin In The Sun or Carmen Jones or 12 Angry Men...I think ole Newt deserves a bit of a break on this one.
