Raccoon Dogs Brutally Tortured For Fake Uggs

Shocking video has surfaced which shows raccoon dogs being skinned for the purpose of making fake Ugg boots.

The disturbing footage, reported by The Sun, shows the raccoon dogs being pinned to the ground, skinned alive and hurled in a pile.

The Chinese-bred animals are used for their soft fur, which substitutes for the Australian sheepskin used in authentic Uggs. Fake Uggs go for just a fraction of the price, but those who have opted for the replicas may change their mind after seeing the ugly truth about the fuzzy fur that's keeping their feet warm.

Mark Jones, the UK director of Humane Society International, told the Sun:

"The raccoon dogs routinely endure unspeakable suffering. They die a slow, agonising death, their bodies raw and bloody...There is no UK ban on their fur so it's possible these phoney boots could enter the high street."

It's just one more chapter in the battle between animal product-loving fashionistas and animal activists has been going on for years.

PETA is notorious for lashing out at fur-wearing celebs for their fur, leather and even feather garments -- the animal activist group recently criticized Rihanna for stepping out in an ostrich feather top. Rihanna is a repeat PETA offender as are a slew of other celebs including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Naomi Campbell, Rachel Zoe and Kate Moss.

Although we're assuming there will be no problem with fake Uggs amongst the Hollywood/celebrity set. We're pretty certain the stars like the real, ugly, sheepskin thing.

This makes me sick. Why does our government allow the import of products obtained in such a cruel fashion ???????????

Miyazaki/Ghibli studios has a nice anime movie about raccoon dogs fighting back against human encroachment on their territory. I think its 'pom poko' or something. Check it out.

Miyazaki is an awesome artist and director. Once you see one you will feel compelled to watch all of his movies.

Sheep in Australia is a source of food. I hope they have killed them before skining them. The big complaint about china is skinning the dogs alive and leaving them to die a painful death. WWII Germany tried different experiments, one was skinning people to make lamp shades.

china has no respect for life.

It seems no matter what abuses (human rights and animal abuse) we hear about in the news our government turns around and goes hat in hand and folds to Chinese demands. Its time we and the rest of the world hold the Chinese to our standards adn stop playing the apologiest for them and looking the other way.

Last year it was Raccoon Dogs being skinned for designer coats:
http://www.examiner.com/pet-news-in-national/fake-fur-on-jackets-could-be-actually-be-raccoon-dog-fur-photo-video
This year it's Uggs boots? How is it that this one animal has fur that looks both like a raccoon and a sheep so it can be used for two different garments? I'm not in favor of inhumane treatment of animals but I wonder how much of this is truth and how much is propaganda.

china eats dogs and cats - it's true
01:01 PM on 10/05/2011
Yes, we are all aware that many countries use dogs and cats as a food source. However the point of this article is not about slaughtering the dogs for food, just for their fur.
02:11 PM on 10/05/2011
Chinese people eat dogs and cats the way Americans eat Moose. Yes, there are people who do, but it's hardly common enough to be sold in supermarkets.

So stop with your prejudice already, it's not pretty.

If you are an animal rights advocate (animal rights is an oxymoron since an entity must be able to grant a right to recieve one, but that is an argument for another day), what difference does it make whether the fur or leather was obtained in a cruel fashion or a more humane fashion? At the end of the day, the animal still dies.
12:55 PM on 10/05/2011
cruel vs humane? you have no problem with either?? my God!

You miss my point. I'll try again. If you believe in animal rights, you should be against killing an animal under all circumstances, cruel or otherwise. Thus, the article expresses a point of view that is inconsistent with this logic.

Do animals have no nerves or feelings or desire to live? It makes all the difference wether the creature is killed humanely or cruelly. It is preposterous to say that animals deserve no rights because they can't give rights. Seldom have I seen a more idiotic statement here. It is incumbent upon us as sentient beings to avoid inflicting suffering whenever possible, especially when the creature has no power to determine its own fate. I accept that some animals die for our convenience and nourishment, but I do not accept that we should allow our fellow humans to torture them to death.

I have bought fake uggs but they were all synthetic material, polyester, i hope anyway. Can they give us a list of brands that are actually these dogs?
12:56 PM on 10/05/2011
other countries do not have dogs and cats as pets like us. they are a food source and a source of profit

the article is not about pets, nor food sources. It is about torture. Torture... torture... Do you get it?
06:11 AM on 10/06/2011
Bmoniqua, I think the boots are ones that counterfeiters try to pass of as "real" Uggs. So if you're buying "authentic" Uggs for half price, those are the ones to look out for.

I wouldn't wear those ugly boots no matter what they are made of. But hurting animals for it makes no sense what so ever.

There are standard procedures for slaughtering domesticated animals designed to kill quickly and minimize suffering. The raccoon dogs should be killed quickly and humanely as well.
