'The Simpsons' Money Dispute With Fox Execs Could End Show

First Posted: 10/04/11 01:42 PM ET Updated: 10/04/11 02:55 PM ET

Another year, another money dispute at "The Simpsons." Although this time around, it could be even more serious.

The Daily Beast is reporting that Fox studio execs have given the long-running show's six principle actors an ultimatum: take a 45% pay cut or the show ends.

"The Simpsons" has never shied away from taking shots at its home network, but Fox may have stumbled into real life evil overlord territory on this one. Given that the cast has offered to take a 30% pay cut and is being told that's simply not good enough, we can only imagine the backlash that's about to ensue.

It could make the following clip look relatively tame.

After 22 years, maybe 15 of them funny, it would be a mercy killing. And while they're at it, maybe they could try and shake down Seth MacFarlane.

I think they should walk away. If Fox is unable to pay then maybe some of the executives could take the 45% cut to cover the cost.

I used to love the Simpsons but the show has run its course. It no longer contains the same sharp social satire that it once did and the characters are hollow shells of what they once were.

Guess Fox needs that money to keep Sarah Palin on the payroll. Or maybe to keep James out of jail in England for tapping celebrity cell phones.

News Corp is not a turn the cheek kind of organization. The as vindictive as they are partisen.
I'm sure they will cave because ending the Simpsons will bring too much negative press.
