World's Shortest Living Cat, Fizz Girl, Gets Into Guinness Book (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

WATCH: World's Shortest Living Cat Gets A Big Honor From Guinness

A tiny cat in San Diego is getting about the biggest honor possible: A spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The cat in question is named Fizz Girl and she measures a measly 6 inches tall from floor to shoulder.

As a result, she's just been declared the world's shortest living cat by the folks at Guinness World Records.

Fizz Girl comes by her small stature naturally: She's a Munchkin cat, a special breed that have little legs caused by a naturally-occurring genetic mutation.

But while Fizz Girl is definitely tiny, owner Tiffani Kjeldergaard says her diminuitive size is not a detriment.

"Fizz Girl knows that she's short, but she has no problems climbing and getting to the highest places in the house," Kjedergaard said.

Though Kjeldergaard has bred Munchkin cats for years, she has never seen one quite as small as Fizz Girl.

"When I took him to the vet to be measured, he said it was the smallest he'd ever seen," she said.

But as mentioned before, Fizz Girl may be small on size, but she's got a big attitude.

"She's a little bit of a princess," Kjeldergaard confessed. "She likes to have things her own way -- most cats do. She'll come and sit up on my lap. She's not really happy but she'll do it. But when I have something yummy to eat, she'll be right at it."

Fizz Girl takes the title from predecessor, Itse Bitse, a Himalayan/Siamese mix who measured 3.75 inches high but then went missing.

The official announcement comes on the heels -- or paws? -- of World Animal Day, which was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species.

Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world. Oct. 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
