Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed may have exchanged their vows in front of 400 guests at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday, but their engagement was no public display of affection. Here’s an intimate clip from Tuesday night’s episode of “Family Jewels,” recapping how the KISS rocker popped the question to his long-time companion of 28 years.
With the ocean as the romantic backdrop for the proposal, Simmons gets down on one knee with ring in hand: “Please marry me,” he says. And when Tweed starts crying, he reassures her, telling her that she doesn’t have to say anything.
But the former Playboy playmate isn’t exactly speechless: “Who’d want to marry an a**hole like you?” she responds between tears. “You’re so stupid!”
Still, Simmons doesn’t seem fazed by her remarks: “I never thought that I’d ever…But if you’ll give me a chance,” he says, alluding to marriage. “Yeah, sure,” Tweed eventually replies.
The video shows the newly engaged couple celebrating together afterwards, with a nice close-up of the whopping 27-carat Goel Talasazar engagement ring Tweed received.
Despite the problems the couple has had in the past, both look happy. “If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to spend the rest of my life with you,” said Simmons, looking at his wife-to-be. “I’ll be lucky too,” Tweed replied.
