Sky Ferreira Talks CK One Shock

At 19, Sky Ferreira is not only a pop-music prodigy, but a darling of the fashion world: Just this week, both Riccardo Tisci and Olivier Theyskens sang her praises at Givenchy’s after-party in Paris. So it’s no wonder the It-girl was tapped to star in CK One Shock’s flashy campaign, alongside the likes of Lara Stone, Alice Dellal, Ruby Aldridge and others. We caught up with Ferreira, preparing to take the stage at a launch party for the fragrance, to discuss the songstress’s makeup must-haves, beauty icons and pre-show ritual.

What does CK One Shock remind you of?
Going out, and just having a good time.

What’s your signature scent?
This, really. I like to keep it light and not overdo it.

What’s your favorite place to spritz perfume?
My wrist.

What beauty product is always in your purse?
M.A.C Russian red lipstick is my go-to.

You’ve experimented with extreme hair color. What hue will you try next?
I’ve had blue hair before, and am always wanting to do it again, but I just can’t because it takes forever to come out. Pink and purple always fade --that’s why I always mix those two. I’d do turquoise, but now everyone’s doing it, so I have to wait a minute.

Any bad hair stories, or beauty regrets?
I’ve had really bad makeup done before, where it just made me look cake-faced with really heavy eyes and red lips--I looked like a clown. And I tend to just look really tired for some reason. I don’t know why--people always think I’m high and I’m not. It’s just one of those things--I naturally look like that. So, I have to be more careful with that kind of stuff.

Who’s your beauty icon?
Rita Hayworth, because she’s beautiful in general. And Kate Moss, because she’s just effortless in everything she does--the way she dresses, her hair, everything. Drew Barrymore always has really good hair color and textured haircuts. I used to like Alicia Silverstone. Debbie Harry --I’ve always wanted to have white hair. I’ve done it before, but my hair broke off, so I can’t really do that unless I cut it, which I don’t want to do.

What’s your favorite drugstore beauty buy?
Cover Girl black eyeliner. It gets messed up easily, and that’s how I like it.

What’s the secret to your perfectly tousled tresses?
Moroccan oil. And not combing it. Those are the two secrets I have.

What nail color have you been rocking lately?
I usually never paint my nails unless someone paints them for me. I don’t get manicures for some reason. I’m really weird about people touching my hands. But when I do shoots, I like this burgundy color. I like my nails to look a little chipped too. I don’t like them to look perfectly done. But I just got back from Paris and they had some special Chanel nail polish they only had for fashion week. So, I bought it and it’s this pearl blue mermaid color and that makes sense because the whole show was mermaid-themed.

What’s the last step in your beauty routine when you’re getting ready to perform?
Checking my lipstick to see if it’s completely messed up or not. It’ll end up messed up by the end of it anyway. I’m really bad about putting the microphone straight to my face, and you’re not supposed to do that. But I like it when it fades too.

What music do you listen to while you’re getting pretty?
It depends on what I’m feeling at the moment and what band I like at the moment. Lately, it’s been the new Girls album.

What’s the last song you downloaded?
Kim Wilde, or it might have been Lauryn Hill. I kept talking about both of them to someone the other day.

What fall trend are you excited about?
The mermaid trend is everywhere.

You just returned from Paris Fashion Week. What was your favorite show?
Givenchy was my favorite in Paris. And in New York, Calvin is always my favorite because they have the best models. Lara’s always in it, which is the highlight of everything.
