Steve Jobs Death: Politicians Offer Their Remembrances, Condolences

Steve Jobs

First Posted: 10/05/11 11:58 PM ET Updated: 12/05/11 05:12 AM ET

In the hours after Steve Jobs' death was confirmed, many politicians took to Twitter to share reflections of the Apple co-founder and technology genius.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Oh.) said Jobs "changed the world for the better" with his innovations. Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote that Jobs "lived the California Dream every day of his life." House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called Jobs a "visionary, a risktaker, an entrepreneur, and a creative genius who brought joy to millions."

Take a look at the collection of tweets from both sides of the aisle, commenting on Jobs' legacy (below).

Tech execs from Google, Facebook, Microsoft and many others also released statements expressing their condolences via Twitter and other blogging platforms. Bill Gates, for example, shared the following statement: "The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come." Steve your photograph popped into my Safari window today and our eyes locked. I studied over-long the accompanying dates hanging there in the white space struggling to understand:

1955 “are you enclosed” – “within these years?” 2011

And as if waiting for you to confirm via ding!, or text, or voice, or music, or video, or film, my tears knew before I did, that somehow, I was a little more on my own than a moment before. It felt very personal although I did not know you.

I dont see anything wrong with them expressing their condolences but why did they have to do it via twitter ? Everything is twitter these days , I am so sick of politicians and celebrities taking to twitter for everything . Its very annoying the fact that the internet has taken over and everyone is participating in social networks . Are we really communicating with people via social net works now what happen to the old ways where if politcians wanted to address something they would go on tv or do interviews in newspaper articles or in conferences ? I am so sick of twitter and facebook everywhere I turn , its like these social networks are taking over people's lives and thats one reason why I dont have a twitter account because its not needed and I dont need to let my whole life be drawn into a social network site where everyone seems to be under a spell .

WE NEED MORE SMALL BUSINESS LOANS.

The next Steve Jobs could be waiting out there.

Yes, we do. And many of those loans had come from smaller local and regional banks, which may no longer be able to meet the capitalization regulations from Dodd/Frank and continue to loan. These banks are already needing to spend more on staffing to assure compliance with new regulations. Sadly, we may have seen the last of small start up businesses being able to take the risk to become large businesses like Apple that benefit everyone.

it is amazing that they continue to regulate to the point where only the mega corps can make it happen.

mit romney misses the mark. Steve Jobs was more of a visionary than an entrepeneur

A visionary with a dream who was able to share that dream with the world because he COULD be an entrepreneur. Sadly, those days are close to over in the US. With credit in a stranglehold, local and regional banks tied into the heavy regulations of Dodd/Frank, and small business trapped between the two, it is not likely that start-ups will be able to take the same level of risk and become major public players, nor have the incentive to do so even if they would be inclined to take the risk.

Unfortunately, with the passing of Steve Jobs we are also seeing the passing of capitalism that fosters the visions such as he had and allows them to become part of the human experience.

If there has ever been a space that is dead, this has got to be one of them.

How in the world do these politicians think that their words are interesting, thoughtful or substantial.?? This is one big waste of space. This is irrelevant, to bring out the comments of these individuals. ALL OF THEM...They are useless, irrelevant and clueless.

HUFFPOST PLEASE DON"T WASTE SPACE WITH STUPID IDIOTIC COMMENTS.

A small garage and a small idea and a small business loan is all he started with.
With this he put the multitudes to work. He was the true job creator. This is the model.

And since his return to Apple, he took $1 a year in salary.

Admittedly there was a gulfstream jet. And stock options.

But most of the so-called "job creators" would take the huge salary, the jet and the options and then make ridiculous gambles to maximise the short-term growth of those options before they vested.

Jobs just inspired his team to build a small and focussed range of products (Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod) whose entire portfolio could probably be catalogued in less than eight pages, which is a direct contrast to some of the "shotgun marketing" of many companies not just in the US, but globally as well.

Know what you do. Know your limitations. Win your battles from what you know about yourself and what you know of your competitors. Always do it well. Never rest on your laurels. Never use the phrase "that's good enough - ship it".

That is the model.
