I know what I will remember him for. His rare character when no one was looking. My daughters and their caregiver were hit by a car as pedestrians while traveling with me on business in New Orleans in 1996. My oldest daughter's injuries were significant and it took days before we knew exactly what she would need. Their dad worked for NeXT at the time, but was hardly a Jobs insider. When he heard about the accident, Steve Jobs personally phoned the hospital waiting room and spoke at length with my mother (then 75 and who had never heard of him) about the girls' condition. He offered at this own expense to have all of us flown by private medical transport to Stanford so our oldest daughter could receive care closer to home and we could have the support of our extended family and friends. He reached out to mere acquiantances, if that, parent to parent offering his concern, support and help asking nothing in return. No assistant called, he was not put off that my mom clearly did not know of him, he was just a real person, truly kind. That's how I will remember him

Years ago I was hired as a computer consultant for a bank that had just chosen a massive computer system for its local branches. They hired me to figure out the best way for them to use it. I did my homework, learned their system and the first thing I did was to have them get rid of the huge system and get a few small Apple computers. The work was done better, faster and easier. Steve Jobs truly opened up a newer world to us. He and Bill Gates are my idols. Now, incredibly, Steve is gone much too soon. We will never see the likes of this humble genius again. Good job, Steve. You earned your rest. To your family, all we can say is how sorry we all are and how grateful we are that this family was so willing to share him with us.

When someone that brilliant stays humble, gets knocked back to the bottom again after having it all, gets back up creates even beyond his own imagination, I can only say well done. I never met him, but when he came on that stage in his blue jeans, I listened. I liked him. I respected him. Words I don't often use.

Met him back in 1984 in college. Our professor was a friend of his and invited him to speak to our class about a marketing/financial assignment that was about Apple Mac's and the competition that at the time was a lot for Apple to handle. A very difficult time for Apple when it was manufacturing the "anit-dote" to PC's. IBM, HP, AT&T even Sperry at the time had sent us computers using this thing called "Windows". He set us up with Macintoshes and asked us to compare. I don't remember the consensus and no no one I knew who could purchase a computer at that time(they were rather expensive) bought a MAC - but the experience and his enthusiasm was catchy. Nowadays kids are raised on this technology and use many of Apple's products as if they were born knowing all about them. In any event he was inspiring and driven. I'm glad he went back to Apple and saw it successful. I remember the "youth" and the jeans, sneakers and shirt he wore that day - instead of being a stodgy old man in a suit - he said he would leave his mark on the World. And he did. To is family and loved ones,....peace to all. He won't soon be forgotten. RIP.

it is a sad time...this man did what most of us hope of doing, leaving our stamp and influencing others in a positive way. his mind was brilliant and his heart, even moreso, and his legacy will live on for generations to come. he never once compromised himself, nor his visions, while living out his dreams. i thank him for touching my world, may he be at peace...

I don't know who Rider Strong is but he has a great quote.

Russell Simmons has a beautiful, truthful and touching quote.

Jobs really will continue to live on.

yes, i agree, both tributes were very nice. Rider is most recognized as one of the kids on "Boy Meets World", with Ben Savage. he has also done a lot of other acting (tv and big screen movies) and I believe he's directing/producing now, among other things, he's a very talented young man.

..He was a great man because he cared enough to focus on the consumers that would use his products..He was a visionary because he strived to make his products a step above what was already on the market..He was a very creative inventor..Not only did he want to come up with the best ideas..He also wanted to make sure his products were more high tech than what was out there..But he added to that by making sure he thought about how convinent and portable he could make his products..But he again took it a step farther by thinking about how stylish and personalized he could make his products..He realized that if he could keep these things very small and light that we would be able to make them a part of our daily lives.. Steve Jobs was a one of a kind man..Who put his mind, heart and soul into the products he made..Hes going to be missed many times over thru the years..I just want to say RIP Steve.. And I also want to thank his family for sharing him with the world..I send my condolences and prayers out to them..We have most definetely lost a true icon with his passing..I just want to say thank you Steve Jobs for taking us as far as you did.

.He worked on making the computers and laptops more high tech but at the same time he was thinking about convenince to the people who would be using them..He continuously worked on making them smaller to help businesses that were restricted by the amout of space they had..And then he realized if he made a smaller portable computer..That people could take there work with them to business meetings or to their homes and now we pretty much can be online anywhere..Children in some schools are able to take their laptops from school to their homes..He made it so the children wouldnt have to carry several text books home each day..With the laptop they didnt need to use pencils or notebook paper..And he did the same things with the Iphone and the Ipods..He continuously upgraded making sure we had the newest and best technology..He made sure he thought out how to make the ipod and the Iphone small enough and compact enough that we would be able to make them a part of our everyday wardrobe..They are small enough and light enough to be stuck in our jeans pocket or in a purse..Im sure Steve thought out and realized that there is no better advertisement than having almost everybody in the world walking around using his products.

Steve Jobs was not only a great man and a visionary..He was an inventor who strived to make our lives easier..But he also made sure we stayed on the cutting edge of technology..But Steve took it a step farther each time..As you can see in his products he thought out each and every aspect of how it would be used and who would be using it..

My thoughts exactly. What is a picture of that dirty-necked geek doing here ?

Oh yeah - HP and the other silly media have their instructions to try to pump up his silly "career" by pimping him and the dead-and-gone series he's ruining once and for all !
10:20 AM on 10/06/2011
I agree with the shared condolences about his too soon death. I just regret that he did not manufacture his products in the United States. That makes me sad too.

I just cannot believe he is gone, a true visionary indeed.
