In the two newest installments of Vice's "Munchies" series, April Bloomfield, chef of New York hot spots The Breslin, The John Dory and The Spotted Pig, and Top Chef winner and Girl and the Goat chef Stephanie Izard give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the food they like to cook and eat. If you aren't yet familiar with "Munchies," then carve out some time to catch up on some seriously good vicarious eating and drinking. Vice follows chefs from around the country to see how they spend their evenings, and it comes as no surprise that these nights are full of food and drink.
Bloomfield, the subject of a great New Yorker profile last year, has received tons of accolades for her rich, dense and supremely tasty cuisine. Despite her popularity, she has managed to avoid the common celebrity chefs pitfalls -- expanding an empire too quickly, not being present in one's restaurants, etc. Bloomfield admits in the video that she likes to work and enjoys staying busy. We're happy to see that she enjoys playing beer pong as well though.
Izard has been pretty much rocking it after winning Top Chef. She was honored as one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs for 2011 and her restaurant has received tons of praise. On her Munchies clip, Izard says that Avec is her favorite Chicago restaurant, and chats about the contentious issue of why there are so few female chefs.
Ladies, maybe we can join next time?
