Chicago Fire Department May Be Moving In With Chicago Police

The city's next cost-cutting measure could be making roommates out of the Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Police Department.

The Chicago Sun Times' Michael Sneed reported in her column Thursday that the Chicago Fire Department will be relocating to the Chicago Police headquarters at 3510 S. Michigan late next month to save money and increase efficiency, according to an anonymous source. The source says the building will be renamed the Chicago Public Safety Building.

The Fire Department currently has a high-priced lease for two floors of a building owned by Illinois Institute of Technology, according to Fox Chicago. The Fire Department's current space is one block away from the Police Department building.

Sneed's source says the move has been discussed since former Mayor Richard M. Daley was in office and that Mayor Rahm Emanuel furthered the initiative aggressively.
