Family Research Council's Repeal SB 48 Campaign Warns Chaz Bono Will Replace George Washington

Chaz Washington

First Posted: 10/06/11 05:36 PM ET Updated: 10/07/11 12:19 PM ET

The Family Research Council says it needs 750,000 petitions to place a repeal of SB 48 -- aka the FAIR Education Act -- on the California ballot in 2012 and they are getting desperate to secure them.

The bill, which was passed by the state's Senate and Assembly earlier this year and signed into law on July 14 by Governor Jerry Brown, requires the inclusion of achievements by LGBT people and people with disabilities, among others, in public school books.

This week the FRC posted a call to action informing members that there is only one weekend left before the petitions must be filed on October 12 and asking them to "urge... church members" to join the movement.

To help convince people of the dangers of what the FRC refers to as "LGBT heroes" in the classroom, they've whipped up a YouTube video (see below) that members can share with their congregations as well as a fun Power Point presentation. Among the feared outcomes of the law are:

  • SB 48 would force some public school educators to go against their own deeply held religious and moral beliefs in order to endorse “LGBT heroes” in their schools and classrooms.
  • SB 48 would expose children as young as five years old to the “role and contributions” of “LGBT heroes” in the classrooms. Parents would not be able to have their children “opt out” from learning about these sinful and aberrant behaviors and lifestyles.
  • SB 48 would require teachertime away from focusing on traditionally recognized California and American heroes in order to promote the “role and contributions” of “LGBT heroes.”

And last, but certainly not least:

    • Less George Washington… More Chaz Bono!
  • George and his powdered wig are probably spinning in his grave right now.

if a person is a true hero that does something to help others/improve life/save life or just be an otherwise benefit to society--they should be recognized and celebrated even if they have 3 eyes and scales--unlike these divisive hate mongers that should be caged in a dark cave

These so called concerned christian parents are also the first ones to beat their kid if their kid came out as gay. and would toss their kid out of the house for the same reason. Even at a young age. Many gay teens are homeless, some as young as 13, because good loving concerned christian parents throw them out. That is called child abuse and any parent who does this should be arested and put in prison for at least 10 years. And they should lose everything, their home, their job , everything. Let them be homeless when they get out of prison,.

The parents in these interviews are insane. disgusitng. They have no clue. That man should have been arrested. He was told to leave. i am no longer allowed on to the high school campus for the same reason, on the other side. My kid was suspended twice for fighting / defending hsi boyfirend and twice i pitched a fit in the principle's office for her homophobia and twice i was threatened with being arrested if i didnt leave. Well, i left, but not after a few choice "Freedom of speech" words, which i can not type on here. I feel sorry for the kids who have parents like this. they are so worried about protecting their chidlren, yet forcing them to live in a bubble.

The initial headline leading to this post has Mr. Bono next to a line about gay sweeping changes. He is a straight trans man, not gay, Huffpost.

What the FRC's video fails to mention is that Mr.Parker is an anti-gay speaker/activist. He wasn't arrested for his views, and the school had no authority to meet the demands he made. He was arrested after several attempts by school authorities and police to leave school property. It was well after school hours. His response was "“If I’m not under arrest, then I’m not leaving.” He was arrested.
The FRC and the Parkers should know the Bible says they will be persecuted for their beliefs and that they should accept that.

Sexuality can be relevant to history. For example, I think it is relevant to learn that Thomas Jefferson had a long term affair and children with one of his slaves. Those that try to deny the fact that sexuality exists in all forms and has influenced the course of society are the ones that are trying to rewrite history.,

Never to say they are not in every community... just as obese people are hidden so are the gay sector...I was told once by a former employee who was gay that I would be surprised at who among us is living this lifestyle.

History books about gays are no longer "history" books. They are instead personal diaries and racy travelogues about the sexual escapades and musings of adult figures----which is repulsive when considering that kids may not be learning history at all, but x-rated commentary.
    09:59 PM on 10/08/2011
Have you read any of these books? Do you even know what are in them? There is no reason to believe that fistory books would include any more of the sex lives of gays and lesbians than they do of straights. It is only the unsubstatiated fear of people who fear their own sexuality that would even hint at such a thing.

Ok I have spent some time reading the posts and my head is literally swimming. So many hateful posts calling Christians hateful..the irony of how hypocritical it is, staggered me. When all of you take a break from your rabid bashing of these loathsome Christians, explain to me how a girl ingesting huge amounts of hormones that will most assuredly kill her much earlier in life (even if Cher gets her the BEST doctors) or some boy wanting to chop his soldier off and call himself a girl...is NORMAL?? This is an agenda that you want to push off on our children and with a straight face call it NORMAL?!?! Flame away as I am sure you will, but folks, you can put lipstick on a pig but it sure don't make it Jessica Alba.

Ok, I have it now...biological and psychological crisis should now be represented to our children as normal ... I think I have it now!! Your right actually, it is a crisis that your agenda has reached the level of public "tolerance" that it has achieved. The propaganda wing of your group rivals that of possibly one other organization that comes to mind. I will leave you with a question...what happens to a species that fails to procreate? I wish you success in this endeavor.

@Justin. As a Christian (uh,hmm), I bet no one could run up in your face and tell you what to say, what to think, or how to live.

Is being a (uh, hmm), Christian akin with being a Superman or woman with super powers? How is it that you spend so much time ruminating on the sex lives of others. Doesn't god say that this is perverted thinking?

Just a reminder: The Southern Poverty Law Center, the nation's leading watchdog of hate organizations, has added the Family Research Council and American Family Association to its list of hate groups.

Yes. It hit the list last fall. I find it amazing that no news organization would even consider going to the Grand Wizard of the Kl@n to get an opinion on anything regarding African Americans, but those same reporters and editors eagerly contact anti-g@y h@te groups routinely as if they were a credible news source.

And Mausinn is right - their names sound so wholesome. But what they do is so hateful and hurtful it bothers me just to know they makes use of such names.

I can remember a time when African Americans could not attend the same public school as myself, when people were shunned disowned for dating outside their own race, when it was unheard of for blacks to attend the same churches as whites, ministers were even preaching in the pulpits that the bible clearly spoke of the issue of blacks and whites being together. Reason: "Consider the birds...they don't mate with other species of birds" For the longest time there were those who believed this hatred being spread to separate us as human beings. Now today the hate continues, it's just another issue at hand, the sexual orientation of a person. I know in my heart that no one will ever convince me that spreading hatred towards another human being is the right thing. Just remember in your hatred, that one day it may be your own child, niece, nephew, brother, sister or someone else you love whom this hate is directed. It wasn't right then and it isn't right now.
