Six Flags Fright Fest
October is the month in which New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure gets a monster makeover. Usually home to Looney Tunes characters during the rest of the year, October finds the park bringing in a team of mummies, ghosts and monsters in its Fright Fest promotion. The park's regular rides roll on, but new -- and scarier -- attractions, such as the Fright Fest Freak Show, are brought into the mix. Entertainers, such as Demented Donny and Haunted Heather, perform strange feats that appear extremely painful. Normal park admission prices remain in effect.

Night Of Terror
If you want an experience that takes fear seriously, look no further than the Night of Terror. Comprising six immersive experiences for the single price of $30 ($35 on high-volume nights), this New Jersey attraction uses realistic sets and professional actors. (It's not recommended for children under 13.) The Frozen Tundra attraction takes visitors through an arctic adventure in search of a deadly beast. Brave souls can take a tour of a haunted forest on the Ride of Terror hayride. In the Mayhem of Darkness, murderers and monsters lurk in the fog. The Dreaded Cornfield Maze, 3-D funhouse and Pirate's Revenge bring visitors face-to-face with deadly scarecrows, bloodthirsty clowns and undead pirates. Night of Terror is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in October and the first Friday and Saturday in November.

Halloween At Schaefer Farms
Schaefer Farms offers four frightening experiences for the admission price of $25 during October. The New Jersey farm's Fright Fest includes a 45-minute hayride through acres of horror and a MassAcre Maize that leaves unsuspecting visitors running for their lives through a corn field. The farm also has a decidedly non-scary side, offering fresh produce and fall decorations.
