Dalai Lama Google Plus Hangout To Air At Desmond Tutu's Peace Lecture In South Africa On Oct. 8 (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/07/11 06:18 PM ET Updated: 12/07/11 05:12 AM ET

The Dalai Lama will host an on air Google Plus hangout Saturday that will be shown at Desmond Tutu's Peace lecture.

If you're interested in joining His Holiness, a post on his Google Plus profile states that a link to the hangout will be available about half an hour before the speech. The event is set to take place at 10:30 a.m., South African time (GMT +2).

The spiritual leader canceled his trip to South Africa earlier this week, after the government failed to respond to his visa request in a timely manner. He was set to depart for South Africa on Oct. 6 to speak at the retired archbishop's 80th birthday celebration.

Referencing the Dalai Lama's visa woes, Tutu criticized the South African Government, calling it "worse than the apartheid." Many see the government's lack of response to the visa request as a strategic move to not hurt trade with China. Chinese officials have often blasted world leaders who've met with the Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama sent his "spiritual big brother" a birthday greeting on a video posted on his Google Plus profile on Oct. 7.

Well if anyone knows what takes place in china especially things pertaining to civil rights for the people etc this is the guy to see.china doesn't like him because he say's it the way it really is in china. They are notorious when it comes to human rights without a doubt.Yes,china has come a long ways economicaly speaking but at what cost to the citizens of the country.Using child labor with relentless quotas expected to be met by children and if they do not make their quotas for say one day, they are punished for that one day by lsoing out on rations and such.If they don't meet their quotas more than 1 day and say 3 or more days in a row, again they can forget about beibng fed enough if any for thir punishment of not maxing out their daily quotas which is expected of them.Teen girls from rural parts of china have to leave home and go to the big citys and take jobs as geisha's or prostitutes which is what that is,all so they can help their family's survive and their younger brothers/sisters can go to school and become something.I find it a rotten shame

Here is a headline from Reuters on this event: “Dalai Lama: China is built on lies, run by hypocrites†http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/08/us-safrica-dalailama-idUSTRE79716N20111008

China certainly has her faults, a lot of them. Dalai Lama’s criticism on censorship and judicial system is valid.

But to accuse that “China is built on lies, run by hypocrites†is BS and is just his way t o demonize China and part of his dalaispeak.

The “lies†and “hypocrites†have contributed to elevate over 300 million people out of abject poverty in the recent past, a miracle in the history of mankind if you ask me. Even with flaws and shortcomings humanity must side with “lies†and “hypocrites†instead of the Dalai Lama who has not worked a single day in his entire incarnation.

Take back your BS, Dalai.

Right. Elevated 300 million out of abject poverty while making how many millions disappear?
This country arbitrarily claims large tracts of land belonging to other countries and suddenly decides Tibet belongs to it. I call that hypocrisy. And yes, lies.

I suspect that you are being sarcastic.

Dalai Lama is a meat eater. In fact meat eating is not prohibited in Tibetan Buhdism. During the Dalai Lama’s theocracy throughout his reincarnations the Lamas hire/exploit the Hui people as butchers to prepare meat for them. Of course the bad Karma falls on the Hui butchers.

And the Dalai Lama talks about “hypocritesâ€.

"Exploit" the butchers. Just as your sainted government sends people to "re-education" camps and brutalizes them? You tell me what to call that.
