Netflix Adds New AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel Content; Now Streaming 'The Walking Dead' And More

Brains! As part of a multi-year contract with AMC Networks, Netflix has added "The Walking Dead" and several other shows from AMC, IFC and the Sundance Channel, according to a press release from Netflix and AMC.

Season 1 of the popular and critically-acclaimed zombie drama "The Walking Dead" will become available immediately, per the release, with other programs like Fred Armisen's "Portlandia," "Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys" and David Cross' "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" following soon after.

Financial terms were not released, but presumably Netflix used some of the money it saved from losing out on Starz earlier this year in the deal.

Netflix already has a good relationship with AMC: In April it added "Mad Men" to its streaming catalogue, and in early September it started streaming "Breaking Bad".

Season 1 of "The Walking Dead" should be up on Netflix sometime on October 7.

Is anyone else a bit disturbed by the current popularity of zombies, vampires, etc.or is it just me?

Not to be a killjoy, and I did find Walking Dead to be really well done and mesmerizing drama, but what does it say about our society when this type of subject matter is "enjoyed" on such a mass scale? What would Freud have to say about all this?

Anyone care to chime in?

I have a theory that vampires and zombies represent the two types of people in out society.

1. Zombies - the mindless consumer, the sheep, the followers, the sleepwalking, the people who voted in Bush for a second term

2. Vampires - the capitalist, the bloodsucker, the manipulator, the exploiter, the user, the politician, the Wall St. banker, the televangelist

Have you seen The Walking Dead? I'm a little tired of the zombie craze, but this is really a good show. More about the characters themselves than blood and gore.

Walking Dead is much more than a Violent Splater Fest. I normally don't care for Gorey Horror Movies,but I find The Walking Dead to be well written,well acted and thought provoking.With Netflix carrying it hopefully more people will check it out. It's not for everyone,but what is?

The Walking Dead saved me from the depression of LOST being concluded! I honestly hate TV. It was LOST or a sports game and that's it. Then I was begged to watch TWD by my sis. As always, great writing and likable characters are the KEY to any great show or movie.

Can't wait for the 16 episode season.

I just wanted a list of shows, not stuff about zombies.

I hope they put Community on Streaming.

Also, I'm kind of peeved that they put 4 of the 5 Twilight Zone series on streaming, but of course, they put one year on disc.

I don't want discs...that's why I cancelled my disc subscription and went all streaming.

If you want to charge me more for streaming...go ahead...I'll pay it if you put all the disc content on stream!

Nature abhors a vacuum. TV proves that. More channels, more appalling shows. This year the networks outdid themselves in producing trash. At least the actors did well.

I was so stoked when I saw that Netflix had added "Breaking Bad" to instant streaming. It was a rarity in their drought of good, new shows. Finished all 3 seasons in like a week and now I'm back to where I was before. Luckily, "Walking Dead" should keep me entertained for the next week or so.
