Deaf Black Lab Fetched By Dog Friend (VIDEO)

Teamwork has never been more adorable.

Benson, a cute black lab, is hearing impaired, so when it's time to come inside after playing in the yard, his buddy Buffy has to fetch him.

Despite being "awwww-inspiring," it seems doggy cooperation isn't that uncommon. Earlier this year, Rowdy, a rat terrier, went on a walk with his owner and discovered Casper, a 15-year old miniature schnauzer, stuck in a drain pipe.

Authorities estimated Casper had been in trapped in the pipe for around three days. Firefighters rescued the imprisoned pup with a "unique plan involving a hose and a teddy bear."

Watch as Buffy happily prances over to his roommate, grabs his collar, and ushers him back towards the house. It's even better if you listen to "The Best Of Friends" song from the Fox and the Hound at the same time.

If you want to help a dog in need, check out Petfinder.com or the ASPCA website to learn about adopting a homeless pet.

The Saint Bernard dog was once the ubiquitous companion of monks at the monastery tucked 2,500m above sea level, guiding them through the Alps or helping them to rescue stranded or lost travellers in the snowy mountains. However, there are no longer any such dogs living permanently at the monastery these days. In fact, the monks decided five years ago to part ways with their pedigree breeding programme, as the work became too much for the four monks living permanently at the monastery to handle. The breeding kennels faced the risk of being shut permanently if not for a group of Swiss bankers and animal-lovers who set up the Barry Foundation to buy the breeding programme. Say "hi" to Winky!

I just had to comment on how enjoyable it was reading this story and the great stories so many of you shared about your own pets. No matter what religious belief, party affiliation, race, etc., all of us share one thing in common....a genuine love for animals. This is one time I wish HuffPost would allow a "group" fan & fav, because there are very few places on HuffPost where almost everyone is in total agreement!

I come to this part of Huffpo everyday, most of the stories make me smile, and like you, I like to read stories from other animal lovers.

Why do we consider animals less than human beings? And why are we amazed when they behave in normal, compassionate ways?
02:08 PM on 10/14/2011
Because sadly there are still too many people out there who just "don't know what they don't know" ...

Only true animals lovers understand the pure love and joy one can share with our furry creatures.

Wonderful story ... I want to hug them ... they are just precious!

I'd like to give them both some doggie kisses. I love animals, and stop and pet and talk to them where ever I see them. I even wave to them from my car lol. I was at a stop light and waved to a big dog next to me, and the ower, took it's paw, and waved back. Guess, I'm not the only nut out there :)

How wonderful--service dogs for dogs with disabilities!

My daughter has a genetically deaf dog. She has four hearing dogs as well. When the dogs are at the dog park or out in their yard at home, there is always at least one of the hearing dogs at her side.

My adopted "daughter" was kept in a cage for the first 3 years of her life, a puppy mill. A lady adopted her and all the dog did was run back and forth along a fence all day and night. No one gave her attention, all alone again. Back to the shelter. I got her and thought she was a greyhound, so anorexic she was. I knew she needed me right away, an old lady with a quiet home and time to love her. She will never be ok as her little brain is cracked but I love her and she loves me as much as she can. She is so scared of everything but has come a long way. Right on people, adopt, don't shop. These kids need us.

Thanks Mattie. Your kitty is so cute. My Mitsey loves cats and dogs because that was all she knew from being in jail for so long. I wish I could have another animal where I live because I want to get HER a kitty! Be well. F&F too...

Very touching story. Dogs are amazing. I'm hearing impaired and my Chihuahua, not trained as a hearing dog, tells me when my phone rings in another room that I can barely hear, she tells me when my alarm clock rings upstairs that I can't hear at all. She pulled me out of the way of two cars behind me that I can't hear at all when she wasn't trained to pull on the leash. She sensed something was wrong when I stumbled upstairs suffering the confused effects of heat exhaustion and battered and pushed me with her paws to get me up. I never called her, she didn't follow me, she had a sense and she helped me again. Dogs do amazing things in helping another dog in need or with people, formally trained or not and all they want is their paycheck of love back. There was no benefit other than love and trust that my Chihuahua has for me made her come up to me and get me on my feet and lead me downstairs for water. She knew I was confused but she was amazing. And so, this dog helping a deaf dog who could just as easily go about its business, helped without training because he wanted to. A real feel good story. Dog are amazing. I'm on my third cat and they've all been 'special' in their own ways and they're capable of a lot more than people think.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you will get another to love when you can. I still miss all my dogs that left over the decades. Labs are so cool! I always wanted one but never had the room. Bye Duke from my Miss Mitsey!

Animals understand so much more than humans give them credit for. Two of our cats used to escort our blind dog when she had to go outside to take care of business. They would sort of sandwich her between them and walk along in the yard with her until she was ready to come back in (no, we didn't leave her out there unattended). Once, when she tried to get out the yard and walk down the street, they both ran along beside her until I could call her back to me.
