Martin Scorsese has, over the past 40 years, earned the reputation as one of our finest auteurs, creating a long line of gritty, often bloody films.

And now there is this.

The Oscar-winner is premiering "Hugo," his first ever 3D film, Monday night at the New York Film Fest. It will be an incomplete version of the film, but from the featurette below, it's clearly on its way to masterpiece status.

An adaptation of Brian Selznick's hit novel, "The Invention of Hugo Cabaret," the film stars Asa Butterfield as Hugo Cabaret, an orphan boy living secretly in the bowels of a French train station during the 1930s. He's accompanied only by a strange robot given to him by his father, played by Jude Law, before he dies -- until he meets a young, adventurous girl played by Chloe Moretz, who has the key that unlocks the magic of the inanimate companion. Their romps are given added danger and whimsy by an angry station inspecter, played by Sacha Baron Cohen.

The film hits theaters on Thanksgiving.

Chloe Moretz is one of the only young actresses I know that can be super cute or super creepy without batting an eye. I enjoy these back and forth transformations. She'll be fun to watch when she gets a bit older. Got a lot of potential there.

Can't wait to see it in only two dimensions.

It's Hugo Cabret - not 'Cabaret.' Different movie.

I've watched it and let me say, the movie is really, really good. It's so heartwarming, especially the scenes between Hugo (Butterfield) and Isabelle (Moretz). It's not so much a Disney or holiday season type of family movie but rather an independent movie that's family oriented - definitely not for little kids.

The trailer didn't do anything for me, but after watching the advanced screening, it really is a movie to watch.

Most magical film of the year my butt. DH Part 2 FTW.

I'm a huge fan of Martin Scorsese, but the first time I saw this trailer, it did nothing for.
Nothing changed after I watched a second time either. The film just seems lackluster.

I think we all are on a way to a barf bag. Laying it too thick, especially for footage that doesn't warrant this much pre-emptive fawning.

Looks pretty good. I've always enjoyed Scorsese's films. Some get a little drawn out, but always a great film. For the genre, this looks to be one of his best.

Since I just got a new 3D TV, I can't wait for this one! Tired of the numbing 3D action drivel or grade school level animation stuff.
