James Miller, Goshen College Professor, Killed During Home Invasion

Goshen College was awash with grief on Sunday after a professor at the school was killed during a home invasion that seriously injured his wife.

The death of James S. Miller, a biology professor at the school, shook the small Mennonite institution-- whose very credo is based on a commitment to peace-- to its core.

The AP has more:

Goshen police made no immediate arrests in the early Sunday attack and said the investigation was continuing. Elkhart County Coroner John White told The Goshen News that the 58-year-old Miller's death was a homicide but declined to give details ahead of a planned autopsy.

Neighbor Sanford Lehman tells the South Bend Tribune he heard calls for help and the Miller's dog barking just before police arrived.

The college made news earlier this year when they stopped playing the Star Spangled Banner at sports games because its lyrics were too violent.

"Words cannot adequately convey our grief over the enormity of this tragedy," said the school in a statement. "We offer our prayers and support to the Miller and Jeschke families and we ask that you please keep them in your prayers."
