Kanye West At Occupy Wall Street: Hip Hop Artist Visits Protests

First Posted: 10/10/11 04:49 PM ET Updated: 12/10/11 05:12 AM ET

Kanye West has become the latest celebrity visitor to the Occupy Wall Street protests.

The hip hop artist/fashion designer/all around impresario showed up at the rallies in downtown Manhattan on Monday. Russell Simmons, who has been involved with the protests for some time, tweeted a picture of West on his way down.

West, of course, became known for his unscripted televised moment in 2005, when he said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during an appeal for aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

I will quote a very smart man Dave Ramey. "Oh, and a special note just for Kanye: Capitalism has been pretty good to you. I celebrate your success, but you look a little hypocritical protesting capitalism while wearing a $50,000 watch."

I believe that everyone should get involved in this, this is the only way that "WALL STREET" would see that Americans or hurting & aren't taking it anymore, why should the "Low-Income" people of American have to suffer so. We truly need more jobs, not in other countries where they were sent to, we need "Companies" not MoM & PoP stores they can't employ no more than a few people. We need our Companies back from overseas where they were sent back "when"! Where are our Big Companies, "Steel Mills, Cars, our ports back that were sold out, even our own downtown bldgs. that are not even our own NO more. What a shame, & then you wonder why our ecomomy is bad & people are loosing their homes. Look at our Banks now, they want more of the "PIE" (more money) that "WE" the people put in. Can't get blood from a "Trunip" :( sad but True!!! "WE NEED TO UNITE & STAND, NOT FALL FOR ANYTHING, BUT STAND UP & BE STRONG." UNITED WE STAND, DEPARTED WE FALL, NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE.

Down with Wallstreet and the ric!. Up with Lenin and the proletariat!

Oh wait, that's been done and didn't work out.

Nevermind.

lol...Mr. West has NEVER had a problem stating the obvious...often times to his own detriment...

Mr. West and Mr. Simmons have NEVER received stimulus money...while companies like AIG took stimulus money and hosted large lavish parties...

Nor do Mr.West or Mr. Simmons operate sweat shops overseas for minimal cost for high profits, like the UN-AMERICAN American corporations...

to compare them with big business and to suggest that they are photo opting...is probably some of the most uneducated and illogical statements that i have ever read...

If there is one thing in this country I can get behind it's thousand dollar jean wearing hip-hop moguls lamenting the plight of the middle class.

Just because they are successful now doesn't mean they have had it on the easy way their whole lives. They came from bad neighborhoods and the ball was never in their court but they worked their a**es off just to make a living and look what happened they became successful and are now comfortable due to their hard work. They are supporting where they came from and showing that anything is possible. Only problem is so many people are spoiled and feel entitled to something and they will not work hard on improving themselves or their situation

Both Russel Simmons & Kanye West hav flaunted their wealth & greed in the faces of the POOR, yet they get welcomed in the Occupy Wall Street movement SMFH.

These celebrities are showing up because their publicist tell them too bcuz this makes for a great photo opportunity. Who's gonna show up next Puffy Daddy or Jay-Z? LOL!

DO NOT LET CORPORATE AMERICA INFILTRATE OWS WITH THEIR SPONSORED CELEBRITIES!

DO NOT LET ENTERTAINERS THAT HAVE A BODY OF WORK THAT CELEBRATES WICKEDNESS INFILTRATE OWS!

Wow. Kanye West? I'm not sure if I'm impressed or surprised. Very little impresses me so it has to be surprise. Not wantin' to be branded as a "hater" but I guess sometimes it's difficult to "find" good photo-ops. This may be untrue. It may also be true. Was Kanye interviewed? I haven't seen or heard that he was so I guess I just have to content myself with my opinions. Shucks, it appears everyone else on line feels the same about "their" opinions. Life.

Why would you be impressed or surprised? His visit wasn't about them - it was about him ... being seen out there.

Naa, it's all about getting people who listen to his music and are unemployed or underemployed to take a look at this. I don't see ANY black 20 something's from Bedstuy or Queens(who also reside in smaller tax brackets or are unemployed) that listen to rap(not hip-hop but rap) protesting, and they should be.

If you are going to show up at a anti capitalist protest, make sure your bling is tucked in your shirt.
