Crafting With Your Cat: How To Make Cat Hair Book Covers (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 10/11/11 05:11 PM ET Updated: 12/11/11 05:12 AM ET

We get a lot of e-mails. Yet when we received an e-mail announcing a book called "Crafting With Cat Hair," we have to admit, it caught our attention.

When we finally got to see a copy of this how-to book involving feline recycling, we realized that there actually are some really cute crafts you can make using your cat's hair (and, just to clarify, there are only small portions of each craft that require cat hair).

Here's a piece from the book on how to make cat-hair book covers. Don't have a cat, but still want to do the craft? You could easily replace the cat hair portion with felt.

For more on this craft and other crafts you can do with your cat, check out the newly released "Crafting with Cat Hair" from Quirk Books.

This crafting site did an interview with the author who said her mother finds the whole thing a little disgusting but her mother's friend collects cat hair for her.

I throw the cat hair in the yard, and the birds love it for making nest. This is a cute idea too.

My cats love to help me craft. They are great at holding down the pattens by sprawling all across them, and keeping my scissors sharp by flicking them under the sofa where I can't find them to dull them up by using them. They also like to grab the thread and run. One of them chews on card-making papers, just to make them look all lacy with fang marks.
I never collect the cat hair to make things out of- what an idea

Every spring and fall I have wondered whether something useful might be created from the bounty shed by my Little Master. I have often thought that I could knit him a kitten with spring, or save up for a year and create a full size playmate for him. Book covers never entered my head.

If I wanted anything covered in cat hair, I would tell Angus (my cat), NOT to sit there, works every time, one word from me, and he does as he jolly well pleases.

The only thing funnier than this, is the brithday cake that looks like a litter box.

Meanwhile, the Fluffy and Precious are in your bed, plotting:

Fluffy: "I don't think so, hooman. And I'm tired of being forced into making all those lolzcat videos. What about some hooman skin book covers?

Precious: "You get the hooman's legs, I'll get his arms. We'll fool him by thinking we're hungry again..."
