'Dancing With The Stars' Week 4 Performances: The Good, The Bad & CHER (VIDEO)

Dancing With The Stars Week 4 Cher

You may have tuned in to see Cher last night on "Dancing With the Stars," but chances are you got sucked into watching movie scores night because it was just that fascinating. There were actors swinging on ropes, pirate sword battles, dancers descending from the sky and even shirtless men wielding lightsabers.

But the highlight if the night belonged to Ricki Lake -- who scored the first perfect 10 in the competition -- twice! That's right, Ricki and Derek's sexy "Psycho" tango earned two 10s from Carrie Ann and Bruno, while Len gave it a solid 9. While I agree that Ricki and Derek had a great night on the dance floor, does anyone else feel like the judges play favorites? It's like Derek and Ricki can do no wrong, while on the other hand, J.R. Martinez, the best contestant in my opinion, can't seem to catch a break with the judges, who always seem to nit=pick his performances more than the other contestants.

Maybe Carrie Ann and Karina had a backstage cat-fight? Or do they just want to push J.R. to do better? Regardless, I'm getting a little tired of the Ricki and Derek Show.

As for Cher, well, she looked...um, amused? For the first hour and 45 minutes, it felt like I was playing "Where's Cher?," trying to spot the legend somewhere in the audience. Surprisingly, the 'DWTS' only panned to Cher about seven times in the entire two-hour show. That's barely enough for a good drinking game.

But Cher did get some screen time after her son Chaz's performance. To be honest, last week I thought Chaz deserved to go home, but after watching his fun, 'Rocky' themed paso doble -- his best performance yet -- I feel like the old Chaz, the one that smiles and looks like he's having a good time, was back. Even Lacey seemed like she was enjoying herself.

Meanwhile, Cher looked like a proud mama, clapping, cheering, bouncing and even praying for her son -- and it was hard to ignore the tears in her eyes after Chaz's performance. Although, I thought Cher getting a standing ovation after Chaz mentioned her was a little much. After all, it was Chaz's night to shine, not hers.

Overall, it was a great night for Chaz, and whether he gets sent home this week or not, he should be proud of his performance. I mean, his segment featured both Cher and Richard Simmons, so he can't really go wrong.

Although I'm not so sure he will go home. After Kristin Cavallari's shocking elimination last week, it seemed like the producers were dropping subtle hints through out the night that 'DWTS' isn't really a dance competition. First Carrie Ann comforted Chynna Phillips, who surprisingly looked like a hot mess this week, by proclaiming, "It's a little disco ball trophy. It's not the end of the world!"

That may have been the most sensible thing she has ever said. Meanwhile, Len told Carson that even though he wasn't the best dancer, if he was watching at home, he would vote for him. So see? Even the judges agree that 'DWTS' is more of a popularity and personality contest than a serious dance competition.

Other notable performances included Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who danced the fox-trot to the "Toy Story" classic, "You've Got a Friend in Me." It was fun, joyful and Hope looked great. For me, Hope never really stood out, but this week she showed the judges that she's a major Mirror Ball contestant.

Even Rob Kardashian is starting to grow on me. He doesn't want to be seen as the "loser brother who's never had a job before," so what does he do? Pretend to be Superman, of course! Well, more like Super Kardashian! Honestly, I can't diss this Kardashian. He looked great on the dance floor and for the first time, I saw a leading man, one that has the chance to take the trophy -- a slim chance, but still a chance.

To see if your favorite contestant is safe for another week, tune into the results show Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9PM ET on ABC.

So the stars have now figured it out that this show is nothing but a popularity contest. First of all the choreographed performances have little or nothing to do with the actual dance. 99% of viewers wouldn't know what dance they were watching unless they were told ahead of time what it was they would be seeing. Secondly the producers making the dancers perform to music that has a dramatic meaning to the performer but has no connection to the dance style is obvious. It's totaly now all about the drama.

So it wasn't just me!   Yes, they have been way to hard on JR whose every dance was at least as good as Ricky Lake's.   Wow, I am correct.   She had better stop it.

But remember, Ricky Lake, who is really good, does not have the voting blocks that JR has.  The military, people who want to support the troops, angry AMC fans, the sympathy vote etc,    AND  who wants to see Derrick win his 4th when others haven't won at all?

But it wasn't just me!

No not at all, to tell you the truth yes Ricky was good but where was the flow and charm? To me more being technically correct than ,hmm...Kristie Alley had that flow and that spontaneity . Yes,where are the ABC fans,JR had a semi-major role. Sad...

JR had a semi major role, but remember, he was brought on to do a handful of episodes with just a few lines, mostly one or two words.   However, between the fact that they saw something in him and the fans, he then earned them making him more and keeping him.   Where are the AMC fans?  Well, he's still there, although his dancing should be enough at this point, I am betting they are voting for him, as well as the vets, etc.

Saw the repeat a little while ago, some one needs to have a word with Carrie Ann, she was absolutely bitchy to J.R / Karina ( Karina is the object of her jealosy), and if looks could kill that would be Karina the tigress..go J.R...get the trophy...

Did Carrie Ann ever have the "hots" for Maks? Karina and Maks were an item and engaged at one time so maybe that's where Carrie Ann's envy lies.

Ms. Bell, I agree with everything you said about last night's competition.

I really think the judges don't like Karina for some reason. Remember last year when Bruno said she was showing her pu**y, and then took it back? They really seem to have something against her, so it's too bad Martinez is paired with her, because I agree, he is really good.

Ricki is good, but not as good as they think she is, imo. Isn't this DH's first time back on the show in awhile? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyway, I'll be watching the results show soon! I really have no idea who will be going home.

Thanks for a great recap.

i think you are way off the mark about cher being mentioned alot.. especially inlight that the karashians constantly get mentioned and get so much face time . rob is only there because of his name he does minimal work and is always whining. i thought we saw a glimpse of the real david arquette he was quite serious and i would bet he had a drink he was trying so hard to concentrate... jr should rightly win but i do agree there are other factors at play here ...
i believe either nancy or carson gig is up tonight ..

And he is waaay better looking than his little brother.   I saw him on an interview show.  They mentioned that he was the bachelor in the Ukranian version of The Bachelor.  He said he wished he hadn't done it as its against his values.  Loved it.

It was so good to see Cher last night, happy and filled with pride for Chaz. And Chaz really did shine last. I really like seeing all of the dancers getting betting each week, and I hate to see any of them leave!

Agree with the author. Rooting for J. R. Martinez /Karina ,while hugging Chaz. Hope Solo was very good indeed. Catfight between Karrie Ann or jealousy ? Could very well be, Karina hardly gets any credit but J.R / Karina are great together..
06:30 PM on 10/11/2011
Carrie Ann DOES seem to be uber critical of Karina, while the rest of the judges seem to like her choreography/performances. Len is no pushover and he's been very positive. J.R. and Karina DO make a great team!

Just rhinkin' if Kristin Cavalari had not been elimated, there would be a serious smackfest---> Kristin Cavalari---->Ricki Lake--->JR--->Chynna--------they are some serious dancers. If David Arquette seriously ups his game,....he could ne a contender too. Gotta salute Rob Kardasian,....he's certainly improved from the beginning,....and let's enjoy this,....he's proven he's a better dancer than Kim;considering he lives in a house of estrogen,....bless him, he's more than proven he is his own man. He commented he graduated ferom college,....is the law in his future?,....don't think he's blood thirsty enough for the entertainment field.

I really hope Chaz/Chastity goes home tonight, just the sight of he/she is just disgusting to look at( and I do change the channel when he/she is dancing.) I really feel bad for Cher, I wonder how she really feels about seeing once adorable little girl now a wanna be man. Yes Chaz is trying but enough of the sympathy and go home already. Because Cher was there last night and everyone stood up for he/she, Chaz will probably be safe tonight. :(
I hope Ricki Lake winns the whole THING. GO RICKI, GO RICKI, GO RICKI :)

Thought JR was so light on his feet last night. So many of the male contestants stomp around the floor thinking it makes them look tough and masculine when all they rally look like is someone stomping on bugs. Go JR!!

Why hasn't Chaz lost any weight yet? Nancy Grace, Rikki Lake, Rob Kardashian have so far. Asking his body to move in that manner is his biggest problem..no joke intended.

I thought last night during the show that he might be even heavier! Maybe eating is the way he copes with stress. During the first show, he seemed happy and he kind of sparkled. Now he just looks worried and stressed. This must be wearing him down.

She may have given her dance partner a hernia last night.

Oh, wow, it was almost like reading my own words! I don't even watch the show normally, but am wanting to see JR kick butt and take names. HOW can one compare the struggle of someone who had so much of his body burned to most of the others?? GO JR!! And, fans, PLEASE keep voting!!!!
