Paula Deen Reveals Her Worst Habits, Makes Dry Mac 'N Cheese On 'The Dr. Oz Show' (VIDEO)

Posted: 10/11/11 06:56 PM ET

Paula Deen is having a busy day. She stopped by the Today Show this morning and spent her afternoon with Dr. Oz.

On The Dr. Oz Show, Paula is her usual, bubbly (super hot?) self. Dr. Oz says tells Deen that he has so much he wants to talk to her about, and Paula says then that she'll "try and shut up," after she pulls her britches up.

She pauses dramatically before admitting her worst habit. "I'm so embarrassed and ashamed," she confesses. "Potatoes and cigarettes."

The mac 'n cheese she makes doesn't come out quite right. Guess that explains why her Food Network show isn't live.

She is a bit over the top for my taste and I hate seeing her face looking back at me everywhere with all the products she has marketed. But she filled a niche and lots of people like her. I don't think her food is healthy and I sure don't like much of what I have seen but she is an original and I commend her for finding her audience. It just seems sort of silly to hate on this woman so I was surprised by some of the comments I read.

I read Paula's bio when it came out a few years ago. She admitted to smoking but said she would never allow herself to be photographed with a cigarette, like Jackie O. For her to admit to the habit on Dr. Oz, leads me to believe she is probably ready to quit.

One should not try to make healthy versions of unhealthy foods. They always fall short. Oven baked fake fried chicken only makes one long for the real thing. It is much better to make healthy food most of the time and when you want mac and cheese have a small portion of the real thing.

I assumed her worst habit was speaking out loud. What an overrated cook.

Yes, I think her worst habit is turning one syllable words into three syllable words.

If you're going to make fun of southerners, you should probably not use the word "Y'all." (See your previous post.)

I am a master control operator in a TV station which airs Dr Oz and watched that show as part of my job today. It wasn't just "potatoes and cigarettes." He asked her what her fast food weakness was and she responded with "french fries." She and he did go on about her smoking habit, which apparently she feels a lot of shame over, especially as her husband has quit.

The dry mac-n-cheese was part of a challenge he gave her to make her favorite recipes with half the fat and calories. The pre-made portions came out looking like gnarly hockey pucks.

When I was younger my first job was as a waitress at a restaurant. I got quite an eyeful of people eating. It wasn't pretty to see and I just have such a hard time watching people eat since then.

I've caught her show a few times in the past and at the end she always shovels a huge amount of food into her mouth and makes 'yummy' noises. I can't stand that. I'm glad she likes her food and I know she's promoting her show but her eating at the end is just awful to watch. Same with the morning A.M. shows. They always have an eating - oops! - 'cooking' segment at the end of the show so the hosts can chow down. I turn the channel when those segments come on.

That's so funny because I've always had a thing about loving to watch people eat. I do hate to see sloppy eaters who smack their lips and make noise while they eat (with their mouths open) but other than that, I love it. If a food segment ends without tasting and telling, I am frustrated. Paula makes me laugh, with her butter and cream and her pure enjoyment of her food. I love to watch Tyler Florence too, he makes good food and he always tastes. To each his own, eh Madame? Giada Di Laurentis always tastes and gives us a rundown on the tastes and textures (creamy and crunchy!) but I get the feeling what little she eats on camera is it for the day for her, she's so tiny!

You should watch Sandra Lee's show. She always stops just shy of the food actually going into her mouth. Of course her food is awful, but she never eats anything. It is also rather amusing to see Kathie Lee and Hoda fight over, not the food, but the wine on the cooking segments on the Today show.

Existing is her biggest problem.
Although, I'd be happy for her to exist if she stopped being involved with food.

Feel free not to watch her shows or read any articles about her. Life's too short, creeps.

Despite having as little culinary credibility as Ray, she still casts a malign influence over US food by suggesting that the vile lardy slop she serves is something to discuss. This ignorance still festers whether I ignore her or not.

Its not only her mac 'n cheese that's dry....made her chocolate chip bread pudding one time. So dry and awful that I threw it out. Best cook (IMHO) is Molly Wizenberg (sp?)....get her book "A Homemade Life"....everything (and I mean everything!) in it is fabulous!!!

Just started reading Molly Wizenberg's book last night, and it's wonderful. Always love her recipes in Bon Appetit.

I don't smoke, but I'd rather spend time smoking and hanging out w/ Paula making anything with potatoes than watch Dr. Oz.

Yeah it is a good thing her show isn't live. But then again she hardly does the cooking anymore. It's always a special guest or a special son doing it for her.

I don't understand her appeal. Would someone explain please? It would seem she's a walking advert for obesity. Just MMHO.

She makes horrendous dietary decisions seem FUN and BUBBLY. She also pushes a lot of CRAPfood products by big corporations and they fund her shows.

Oh, ok that explains why I'll never understand her fascination except for the food junkies. I'm a serious plant based eater myself and waiting anxiously for truffle season in Oregon. Now that's fun that I suspect this woman would not appreciate or enjoy! Am I correct here?
