Pot Brownies At Funeral Cause Seniors To Be Hospitalized

HuffPost Weird News   First Posted: 10/11/11 11:28 AM ET Updated: 12/11/11 05:12 AM ET

Three senior citizens had to be hospitalized Saturday after being served brownies they didn't realized were laced with marijuana.

The victims, who are all in their 70s and 80s, were attending a funeral in Huntington Beach, Calif. During the service, they each tried the pot brownies, which were passed around on a tray according to KTLA.com.

Soon after, the trio were admitted to a local hospital after complaining of "nausea, dizziness, and inability to stand unassisted."

A police investigation revealed that the tray of ganja goodies had been brought as a tribute to the deceased who, according to the investigators, had used medical marijuana.

All three victims are going to be OK, but officials tell the Orange County Register the case is just one of two recent incidents involving medical marijuana that show its negative impact on the community.

On Friday, two medical marijuana dealers who were making deliveries were robbed at gunpoint and had $1,500 worth of pot stolen from them as well as two cellphones and their keys.

The victims told police they were delivering to potential patients who said they lived in a nearby home.

"All three victims are going to be OK" NO! Really? Why were they hospitalized? If I get tired or dizzy I go home and go to bed. Of course they are going to be OK.
"The case is just one of two recent incidents involving medical marijuana that show its negative impact on the community." Two isn't bad. How many alcohol related incidents are there at any given time?? That all being said, I do not think it was OK for people to do that without their acknowledgement.

I find it morally indefensible to give anyone any drug without first telling them.

I don't believe, that the elderly had trouble standing, yes, that they had nausea and dizziness, no.
These are symptons of the generally relalxing effect, and it probably did them some good, being that many people suffer from arthristis or rheumatism, including myself. They didn't need hospitalization, this is not a narcotic, it's a plant with many medicical benefits.

3 old people went to the hospital because they were scared.
Not sick.
Not "OVERDOSING"
Not dying
Not in any real danger
Just afraid.

Had they not been lied to their whole lives about marijuana and had they known what they were about to eat and what it would do to them none of this would have happened.

But i am glad the "moral" of this story is that Marijuana even medical marijuana is scary!

Not only did they not know what they were eating, they didn't know they were at a funeral.

Hospitalized??? For pot? Really?
The pill the doctors hand out are MUCH more dangerous than pot.

Some people have bad reactions to things that others have no problems with. For example, if I get a diet soda (or diet anything) by accident, I end up at the ER. I am highly allergic to sugar substitutes; my throat closes up, and my tongue swells. Most people have never heard of such a crazy allergy, but I have to carry an Epi-Pen for mine. In this case, both THC and some opiates can result some pretty bizarre side effects in the elderly. What we can take with no problem at 30, we sometimes cannot tolerate at 70.

Pot brownies have a very distinctive smell and flavor. Are they sure they didn't know what they were eating or did they bite off more than they could chew? You know like that last beer at the bar you know you shouldn't have had.

You can't tell with my brownies.
05:49 PM on 10/16/2011
That's not true. I ate some and couldn't tell until I "fell ill" later. I was told the pot was sauteed in butter?

Anyway, I can testify - they tasted d^mn good, but not like pot.

Those seniors probably ate too many pot brownies after consuming the first batch. They probably felt quite good at first. Marijuana has no bad effects but like anything else -- over consumption -- will have a negative effect especially if they are not used to it. Also the reporters may have had a bias creating a story. There's always three sides to any story -- the senior's, the reporter's and the truth

eating brownies is not like smoking a joint when its smoked it goes directly into your system, when it is ingested it takes time to take effect and when it does it can be much more potent and long lasting.so you don't know u have ingested too much until its too late, but the only thing your in danger of is a major freak out
