Rihanna Opens Up On Chris Brown's Comeback

NEW YORK -- Rihanna says she resented Chris Brown for a time, but has put that behind her and is happy that her former boyfriend has found success in music again.

Rihanna tells Esquire magazine that disliking Brown "was taking up too much of my time" and that she has moved on from that.

"It was too much anger," the 23-year-old said. "I'm really excited to see the breakthrough he's had in his career."

Brown, 21, is serving five years of probation after pleading guilty to felony assault for the attack on Rihanna in the early morning hours before the 2009 Grammys. "Graffiti," the album he released 10 months after the attack, was a commercial disappointment. But his latest release, "F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies)," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in March; it reached gold status and has multiple pop and R&B hits with songs like "Look at Me Now" and "Deuces," among other tracks.

"It's incredible to see how he pulled out the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know?" Rihanna said. "I really like the music he's putting out. I'm a fan of his stuff. I've always been a fan."

Rihanna has done well musically, too: Her albums following the attack – "Rated R" and "Loud" – have both gone platinum, and she's releasing a new album, "Talk That Talk," next month. Her latest single, "We Found Love," is her 20th song to hit the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart since she debuted in 2005.

Overall, she says she wants to see Brown do well.

"I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have," she said.

Esquire named Rihanna as its Sexiest Woman Alive for 2011. The November issue of the magazine hits newsstands on Oct. 16.

Taking up too much of her time? Rihanna told Diane Sawyer, radio stations and other interviews that she did hate Brown at all and still enjoyed his music. All of this took place in 2009. Rihanna is always changing her story, but people ignore it. I liked Brown more(still do) but I felt bad for both of them, because the media takes a story and run with it and the public follows right behind. Hell, look how they're handling Ashton and Demi's marriage. They[the media and public] swear they know what goes on in other people's marriage!

OMG here we go again! Rihanna must be releasing a new CD because she is on the trail discussing Chris Brown. NEW CD = mention Chris Brown in an interview. This is getting too predictable.

By remaining filled with anger or resentment towards someone, you give them power over you.
08:00 PM on 10/11/2011
Chris Brown would do well to steer clear of her totally.

OMG Thank You! I notice that the Chris look-a-like she is using in her new video has already stated that they are not romantically linked in any form or fashion. The first thing he told reports is that his career means everything to him. Smart man, stay away from this one if you want a thriving career. Just asked Chris Brown and Matt Kemp.

I hope that while she is cleansing her soul that she also learns to respect others wishes. If a woman says no a man should respect that decision. When a man says don't go through my cell phone or personal belongings he DESERVES the same respect. I don't condone his behavior but I don't respect hers either.

Still playing the victim by allowing Brown off the hook. Just Rhianna saying this makes Brown’s viscous assault null and void.

Perhaps. Perhaps I hope it squashes it all & finally puts it, if not for the continued interference by the media, behind them both and all. However, like the Titanic, it will be resurrected again, maybe as a love story. We of back in the day liked Miles Davis&Ike Turner and others who did much worse & they did so their spouses. I am sure they supported their music at one time, heck, Tina sung Ike's music. We all listened and enjoyed their music as listeners & fans. Did doing so make them any less victims? Did they or we let them off the hook by stating the obvious of why we first & they first were attracted to them? Nothing can nul l& void such violence except learning to be better, doing better, repentance & acceptable promise that nothing will happen to repeat the violence, maturity, death or lack of making money for a certain amount of time to experience contrition by loss of $$ and fame. Beef squashed and if ever he hits someone again, it might just be on them if they live on this planet!

Well let me add this, Jeff Goldblum beat Gina Davis, Emienm beat wife Kim, Ozzy Osbourne beat wife Sharon, Steven Seagal beat wife Kelly LeBrock, Sean Penn beat both Madonna and Robin Wright-Penn and of course Charlie Sheen shot Kelly Preston, and beat up Densie Richards and Brook Muller yet none of these ADULT men have ever suffered the mistreatment by the media that TEENAGE Chris Brown has due to one mutual altercation with Rihanna. I wonder why?
10:20 PM on 10/11/2011
What? Chris and Rihanna had a mutual altercation! She admitted to beating on him 1st. It was the media that turned a fight between two ppl into a discussion all about one. A young man (Chris was just a teenager) cannot carry the weight for two ppl. She should have told the truth aboout her involvement not just to the authorities but also to the media. This circus has gone on for far too long now!

I base my comments on what Rihanna said. Disliking Brown, "was taking up to much of my time." Time that obviously she has re-directed toward producing multi-platinum albums. And no doubt increasin' her burgeonin' coffers. Rihanna could, I'm sure, buy Mr. Brown ten times over. But hey, she ain't missed a beat. Mr. Brown cannot say the same thing. He may have "beaten" Rihanna; but who is "beaten" now? Life.

Sistagril there should never be competition between male and female in a relationship not even about money!

Hi there Virgil Freeman; I do not believe my post intimated anything to this effect. I agree there should be no competition in a relationship. In a "perfect" world I have no doubt that this "would" be the case. However, since we both know this is not a "perfect" world...well it be's that way sometimes. Besides I know from personal experience if you said somethin' to hurt me. I "had" to hurt back. Perhaps this is what transpired between Rihanna and Chris. I do not know. All I was sayin' is that she realized it was destructive to hold on to her un-productive feelins' and utilized that "energy" to her benefit. Feel me? Thanks for answerin'. Life.

Her success is not due to talent which she greatly lacks, but sympathy and constant pity. But not for the feminist, homosexuals and weak metrosexuals propping her up she would have been back in her native country. Its funny that she started that fight and has yet to pay for her involvement. Life has a way of bring forth justice however. Its just a matter of time for us all.

Hi wizkid14; You obviously have information I am not privy to. I know next to nothin' 'bout Sista Rihanna; other than what I've read. I know nothin' about her fan base either. People like her. If her success is any indicator. "Her success is not due to talent which she greatly lacks." Well her great lack of talent seems to have escaped quite a few people. But if they're happy; I am as well. Life.

First of all, he is 22, not 21, get your facts together. Second, it's great she's moving on. Holding anger is only giving that person power that they shouldn't have from you. This happened almost 3 years ago, so it's no need for either of them to discuss the subject anymore.

She could be telling the truth that she forgives him but I doubts it. She Is not an African American, and was not raised in the State. She is a West Indian, being of West Indian background growing up in that community both in the Caribbean and Europe, we are not the most forgiving people, and the women are the worst. I woud advice Chris to watch his back in this life and the next. Its better to have a west Indian woman on your side than an enemy.

What Chris did was unjustifiable and Rhiana did not deserve that beating. That being said I have commented to family members, that I would rather be chewed out by an Africa American any time of the day than face verbal assault from a West Indian woman. They don't use profanity but they size you weakness, insecurities, your past and they use it against you, they weave words like an assassin weave a blade to cut deep.

Chris, you blew it. You had one of the most beautiful women in the world, and you blew it. When you get older, you'll regret going off on her.

Chris, women should be loved, appreciated, and respected. Beating on a woman is never acceptable in any situation. Never.

So you can see the truth too nb. Why is she even still talking about him? Who cares how Woody Woodpecker feels? And as for you Insanity Rules, Pretty girls come a dime a dozen. Chris had sense enough to know thats there's plenty of VAJAYJAY in the world. He's the one that's better off. "One the the most beautiful women in the world" YEAH RIGHT Oh she's cute,to some, but there are women in this world that make that trashy child look like yesterdays leftovers, after they've been eaten.
