Sean (Diddy) Combs stepped in as a local hero and saved the the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem from going under by donating an emergency $60,000.

The nonprofit was making tough decisions between closing one of its operations or cutting back on sports and tutoring, according to the New York Daily News.

That's when Diddy saved the day:

"Being from Harlem, I heard they needed help, and I wanted to help," Diddy told the Daily News. This "is something that I am proud to do."

The contribution will make a world of difference. Boys & Girls Club board member Willie C. Bentley, Jr. said the funds will do directly support kids, Access Hollywood reports.

"100% of Mr. Combs' contribution will go directly to the young people, and provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs allowing us to move forward as a club, uninterrupted," Boys & Girls Club board member Willie C. Bentley, Jr. said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

Is the club for black children or a mixture of races?
07:58 PM on 10/14/2011
You people are the first to cry foul that someone has 'pulled a race card', yet you're the same ones who always bring up race first. Who the hell cares if PURPLE children are the ones most impacted by the club? The important thing here is that CHILDREN are being provided help and a haven, no matter the race. Because of his contribution, a few more kids were just given hope and opportunity that they might not have otherwise had. If it weren't for your narrow mind, you would have been able to appreciate that fact alone.

I read in another article that ALL of the Boys and Girls Clubs are in need of help. This organization has been around forever, and it's one of a very few that actually gives the kids a place to go after school, especially when they have parents who work. I wonder why more celebrities, worth millions, aren't stepping in to help this wonderful organization? I know they are spreading themselves thin by donating to different charities but, come on, this one's for the kids. I swear if I were rich I wouldn't be so stingy with my money and I find it very hard to understand the wealthy people who are.

I've been giving to the Boys and Girls clubs for more than 56 years now. Why is my name never in the news??
08:05 PM on 10/14/2011
Major kudos to you. Your name should be recognized as well and I can understand your feeling slighted. But for what it's worth, I think that the fact that you have helped to change so many lives of underprivileged children over a course of so many years is a reward in and of itself. Recognition is nice, but you have a far greater legacy than those who just give because they know they will be recognized. Your giving is pure and that accounts for much more..

I applaud Diddy....but this is peanuts.. He has the right to do whatever he wants with his money; but ....I think he bought something like a $300,000 car for his son's 16th birthday

$60,000??? While I think it's great that Diddy gave the money...the sad part is that $60,000 isn't going to last long to run any type of establisment. They probably need $60,000 or more per month to run the program.

God Bless him, for his efforts, to keep the kids, off the streets, and in a place they can be safe, and learn some values.

Good for Mr. Combs - God bless him! If more "compassionate" limo libs were to shut their socialist mouths and open their Capitalist wallets this world would be a much better place.
04:50 PM on 10/14/2011
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings to you but we...libs provide more than those wonderful RICH people..they contribute to their own..we contribute to the masses...and please JZ spent $250,000 on a bottle of champangne..that would have gone a long way for the boys and girls club...drop a cool million on them then you can talk...$60,000 isn't anything when you are worth as much as him!
09:39 PM on 10/14/2011
So you're the official spokesperson for "libs"? Really??? Odd - most "libs" I know scream for government money long before they even think of reaching into their pockets. Think kerry, pelosi, kennedy, etc. You speaking for them as well??

And you're against P. Diddy giving money - no matter how much or how little - to a very worthy cause??

Bottom line - I really don't care how a person spends the money they honestly earned, no matter how much it is. However, when some mega-millionaire who presents themselves as some kind of "socialistic compassionate person" by demanding Government financial intervention into their pet cause instead of donating directly then I get a tad upset. Hypocrites tick me off.
