The New York Times:

HOUSTON — After an internal debate, the Obama administration announced on Thursday that BP would be allowed to bid on new oil leases in the Gulf of Mexico.

Just a day before, the Interior Department cited BP, the British oil company, and its two principal contractors for numerous safety and environmental violations related to the explosion that sank the Deepwater Horizon rig in April 2010.

And what is wrong with this picture? The day before cited for Deep Water Horizon and the next day approved to drill...And to boot from the very administration that says the people of the U.S. are addicted to oil...sure does look like the administration is along with the rest of us.

It is time to transition to safe, clean alternative energy. Wind, solar, wave energy, geothermal and second generation biofuels made from algae, cellulose and waste are the future.

The world produces a lot of trash every day. Let's turn that trash into both fuel and energy.

Remember there are only a handful of companies that bid on oil leases, they act to drive up the prices and the Fed makes more cake off of them. The problem is when they explore, develop and exploit these leases after finding some of that Black Gold.

“The question is, ‘Do you administer the administrative death penalty based on one incident?’ ” Mr. Bromwich told reporters after the hearing. “And we’ve concluded that’s not appropriate.”

Seems about right from the Administration that wants a pipeline down the middle of the country. BP still is the biggest oil supplier to the US government.

Get the money out.

BP is not an oil supplier. We The People (you and I) supply the oil. We own the vast majority of oil in the US. BP is an oil producer. They produce our oil for us. BP is not even allowed to own the oil. The oil is sold to speculators and we get our royalties and the oil company gets their share.

Thanks for making that valid distinction. Now if the Fed could be so enlightened.

When the disaster was in full swing I stumbled upon a government website with a geological report on the stability of the the seabed in the Gulf that was completed some time before. I'm no scientist by any means, but it seemed clear to me after a quick read that there seemed some very serious issues at play that may have contributed to the disaster.

I posted the link to HP, and the website soon disappeared, I've just spent the last fifteen minutes trying to locate perhaps a news article based on the report.

Maybe someone here has seen info on this....

You'd have to be more informative than that. What is especially needed are the technical terms in the report in order to narrow down your searches by using them as specific search terms. Another way to locate the report is if you can remember an exact quote from the report and to search for that specific word sequence. Go on google and pop open the 'Advanced Search' settings underneath the search button, it is worth familiarizing yourself with it and it is basically a short course in applied Boolean logic.

Absolutely, it's well documented they bought judges and mayors, and coast guard, it's the same thing they do all over the world. FF.

BP has killed thousand of people, but at the very least, negligent homicide. They cut corners till things break, and people die, ecosystems die.

Installing rooftop solar would create thousands of times as many jobs, and cheaper electricity to boot. Same for Waste Bio char Bio fuels and offshore wind.
