Gold Kate Moss Sculpture Sells For $900,000 At Sothebys (PHOTO)

Would you like to have a sculpture of Kate Moss in your home? You may have just missed your chance. Marc Quinn's "Microcosmos (Siren)" sculpture (2008) of the British supermodel in a contorted yoga pose sold yesterday for £577,250 ($908,245) at a Sotheby's auction.

The sculpture is made out of ten kilograms of 18-caret gold and was sold alongside more tasteful pieces of art such as Lucian Freud's pen and ink drawing, "Interior Drawing, the Owl" (1945) and Leon Kossoff's "A Street in Willesden" (1985). Overall, Sotheby's London made £17,809,000 ($28,020,681). Not too shabby!

Who would have thought? A gold 'Kate Moss' sculpture! This, for someone that has contributed so much to our world! I wonder what people will say about the sculpture 300 years from now about the person behind the sculpture! Wow, ya gotta see the sculpture of the famous model. She changed the world with her earth shattering looks! Maybe by then, people will have created more interesting stories. Something feels so off to me when a I read about a gold sculpture done to portray a famous model that has had issues with drug abuse and has done nothing of value for our society (that I am aware of). That type of thing used to be an honor that was reserved for great people, not just good looking one. Many a good looking person has posed for a sculpture but the sculpture does not take on their identity. This is a good example of the narcissistic, superficial times we live in.

Gilded camel toe. If that doesn't spell indulgence, I'm not sure what does.

Couldn't you buy the real Kate for that much?

Gilded cameltoe. Irrational exuberance seems too polite.

The subject chosen and the revealing pose don't bother me at all. However, it does seem that much more energy and attention were given to the crotch and stomach areas than to the face or hair.
