Homer Simpson Donates To Buddy Roemer Presidential Campaign

First Posted: 10/14/2011 2:41 pm Updated: 12/14/2011 4:12 am

WASHINGTON -- Homer Simpson may have tried to vote for Barack Obama in 2008, but he's apparently switched his allegiance to former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer (R) for 2012, according to federal campaign records.

Really.

Roemer, who raised $138,000 in the third quarter on donations limited to $100 or less, listed one $25 contribution from someone who identified himself as the beer-loving cartoon character, complete with a job described as "Nuclear Safety Inspector" at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Even the address is the correct 742 Evergreen Terrace, but set in Atlanta.

Romer's campaign had not noticed the errant donation, but was amused -- albeit somewhat embarrassed -- to be informed of accepting cash from a fictional figure.

"Oh my God. That is too funny," said campaign manager Carlos Sierra, who said normally the campaign has an excellent screening system.

"We have one of the best accountants in the business," he said, vowing to find out who Homer really is.

"We'll call them. We have all their information, so we'll reach out to them and see what's going on, because we do not accept anonymous donations," said Sierra. "I will be personally calling him to look into that."

A Huffington Post review of FEC filings found no other instances of Simpson giving, although he did once attract the attention of Police Chief Clancy Wiggums for a charity donation scam seeking $1 donations in return for happiness.

Sierra said Roemer appreciates contributions from any real person.

"The governor takes a lot of time to call them and thank them for their donation," Sierra said. "He spoke to a janitor the other day, and he [the janitor] was very proud that he was able to max out."

As far as cartoon contributors, Sierra might have preferred another character.

"I'm more of a 'Family Guy' [fan] myself," he said.

Although I still wouldn't vote for him, Buddy is not a bad guy. The Republicans would benefit greatly in listening to him an Huntsman if they could actually bring themselves to listen to any reason at all.

I love Buddy Roemer and wish he would get the attention he desrves. Why idiots like Cain and Bachman get any time is shameful. Roemer is for getting the mony out of Politics which should be the main issue of our Country. Yea h Homer!!

I wonder how Homer even found out aboout Buddy Roemer.
He's been blacklisted by the party mainstream.
I haven't met anybody who even knows who he is, and it's America's loss in my opinion .

I saw him on Job Steward's show a couple of weeks ago. I dare say I was positively impressed.

I forgot he made the rounds. Still, I would like to see him on stage with the other contenders. He does make sense about alot of things. I'm not a Republican, but I like his focus on ridding DC of corporate influence.

It's a shame this candidate doesn't get more serious attention. He actually has intelligent things to say - unlike Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Perry, and Gingrich.

As opposed to mid level accountants from a branch Welss Fargo who came up with Cain's 999 plan. I bet there was a Subways accross the street, but "5 dollar foot long" was taken.

Being a closeted Republican, just so I can irritate the Republicans with my primary vote, I now know who I'll vote for in the primary.

Sorry Buddy, I'll still choose Obama for President.

I love HP....
I HATE the cheap articles that mean nothing, contribute less and waste my time....
Are we going to a HP article at election time stating Abraham Lincoln has voted.... or perhaps Dick Hertz?
Fire the editor who encourages this crap. It diminishes HP's power and legitimacy....

There's always room for funny little stories like this. If you don't want to read them, don't. I like them.

Not the point.
Funny is fine.
A waste of time "cheat" artricle should have no place on HP...
How is one to know whether or not an article or headline is legit?

Sad that every day millions of dollars of anonymous corportate donations make their way into the pockets of the major candidates like Mitt "Corporations are People" Romney and Rick "People hate me because I'm a Christian" Perry, and this $25 joke gets a story.
