To be a travel photographer is both a dream and a nightmare. They get to travel to the most incredible places in the world, but once there, they are charged with a daunting task: to find beauty in every corner, be it a desert or a tundra.

To anthologize some of the most amazing results, National Geographic has complied a new book of photography, "Visions of Earth" (National Geographic, $40), which comes out today.

Incredible images include macro shots of strange American species, haunting landscapes featuring fisherman and swimming baitfish, and British ladies donning bold one-pieces.
