Newt Gingrich Campaign Debt Tops $1.1 Million

Newt Gingrich Debt

10/15/11 04:54 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's presidential bid is more than $1.1 million in debt.

The Georgia Republican on Saturday said he had about $350,000 in the bank and brought in more than $800,000 during the last three months. The presidential contender says the average donation was $76.

Gingrich's presidential bid has faced serious challenges, including the resignation of his top aides earlier this year. He spent heavily in the first weeks of his campaign and racked up bills. In the last three months, he paid down $346,000 of that. But he continues to spend; of the roughly $808,000 he raised from July to October, he spent almost $777,000.

Gingrich's debt is the largest known among the serious candidates. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is close behind with $890,000 in debt.

He's an old time Reagan deficit spender from way back. It took Clinton to help him realize the importance of a balanced budget.

why can't gingrich manage money wisely? why would any rational person want him to be president of the united states? if he gets elected and on his first workday enters the oval office.. will he then know everything and stop losing money? what else doesn' t he do well? Obviously Cain does everything well. What else would account for his popularity?

Here is how universally despised you are Newt. My Dad 40 yr. military man (retired) and a lifelong Republican. Typically Stoic with Military Bearing. When you come on the tube he actually throws things at the set.

Good LOR--.......what a complete waste of money. There really are people who are contributing to him and would actually vote for him ?!! This has to be some attempt by the Democrats to sabotage the Republican candidacy.

I suppose Newt could always pawn that Tiffany's jewelry and pay his debts that way.

This man and hopefully the Republican Party as we know it will become obsolete and certifiably sociopathic. If that day comes, there might be some hope.
