11-Year-Old Girl Struck By Stray Bullet While In Her Home

An 11-year-old girl was injured Sunday afternoon on the Far South Side of Chicago when she was struck in the arm by a stray bullet while she sat inside her home, watching TV.

The shooting happened around 1:15 p.m. in the 10000 block of South Perry Ave in the city's Fernwood neighborhood., according to NBC Chicago. Paramedics responded quickly and took the girl to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The girl was in stable condition early Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, and is expected to survive the shooting.

Police told the Sun-Times that a drive-by shooter was aiming for a man sitting on the girl's porch, but hit the pre-teen girl instead when the bullet traveled through a window. They believe the gunman was looking for revenge following the Sept. 12 murder of Dominique Blackmon on the same block.

As of Sunday evening, no charges have been filed in the shooting.
