“The only really necessary people in the publishing process now are the writer and reader,” Grandenetti said.

Right. No need for editors to help the author (who is generally too close to the book to see its flaws or inconsistencies) shape the book. No need for copy editors to keep the language smooth, correct, correctly spelled, and free-flowing. Any author who thinks they don't need these indispensable people are authors not worth reading, trust me.

call me too 1997 but reading a book or novel on a cell phone or tablet = FAIL.....there wont be such a thing as first editions any more.

Calling it a fail is a bit melodramatic. Personally, I think there will always be a market for physical books; however, digital is the future. Not publishing e-books may make physical book last longer, but it won't stop change.
